What is the truth about Ernie Ball Slinky's?

Re: What is the truth about Ernie Ball Slinky's?

It depends on your body chemistry.

That's the truth.

I have really corrosive body chemistry. I have the same problems with SITs, GHS, D'Addario, and even Elixirs. I melt that stuff off of the Elixirs in a matter of hours. It literally turns to goo on the strings.

The only brand that lasts for me are DR. I can use any of their lines - the pure nickel ones, the tite fits, even the hi beams and they last forever and never break on me. Once every 10-15 packs or so, I'll find a bad string that either breaks when I'm stringing it up or just won't tune / intonate for me, but it's a small price to pay when you consider that before I switched to DRs I was changing strings about once every 8 days and now it's more like every other month (if that).

I remember when you bought Slinky's they gave you to E's & B's).

I used them a long time ago. Now I use D'Addario XL115's. The extra girth gives me a nice warm tone. I believe these are nickel also (??) I tried the DR Blues strings, but what I found is they have a round core & I could only git one or 2 plays out of them before I broke a string.

The D'Addario's I can go several months before I really need to change the strings.

I've always used EB classic 10's on my gibsons. I like the warmer tone of pure nickel. My tone got brighter by a mile one day after a string change and it was because the stoner kid at the store gave me regular slinky's. Hey, the packages are both yellow, right? Duuhhh....Sorry dude.

I use blue steels on my shred guitars.Very bright.

I'm lucky with the acid factor. I could keep strings for 6 months if they didn't start sounding flat to me. After 1 month my blue steels are still shiny.

EB Slinky? Nay for me. I break them even quicker than Elixirs...
