What is your preferred tone wood? (or material ex..Graphite)

Re: What is your preferred tone wood? (or material ex..Graphite)

Korina is my favorite tonewood. I have a Korina Tele capped with Bloodwood and a Bloodwood neck. My best Tele.

Hawaiian Koa. I love it for the same reasons I love mahogany, although it's much more beautiful and I dig natural finish guitars. One day I will finally capture a B.C. Rich USA Eagle in all koa......one day.....

Although that being said, the mahogany body capped with maple formula of a Les Paul is tops for set neck guitars. You COULD get similar results with a maple cap over koa, but what kind of psycho would cover up a nice koa top??!!

Next is probably alder.

A VERY, VERY SICK individual, that's who! Makes me brake out in a cold sweat just thinking of it......

Bubinga ,I love the look, the tone and the smell when you cut it

Bubinga smells like horse pee to me ;) I don't like the smell but love to work with it.

I love rosewood. The smell reminds me of rooibos, a herb from South Africa. (makes great tea!). I love ash plus maple for TONE, but I hate working with either. Maple is so darned hard, ash splinters. I love korina. Rosewood neck and board, korina body and you're good to go for almost any style.

I also love to work with ebony. I don't know why, it makes me happy to resaw ebony.

Pine, cedar, fir and spruce. Evergreen softwoods are literally the most resonant woods I've ever worked with. If you haven't tried one before, do yourself the favour.....

Also try paulownia. Amazing stuff.
