The seller says it's a 50 watt mode, but you can change between 50/25 watts. You can choose between 4/8/16 ohm's, and that's really all it says.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

it is either a 2500, a 2500-SLX or a 4500...can you find anything else about it (does it have reverb, number of preamp tubes, etc)?

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Well, he doesn't write anything about it, but I asked him what model it is, but I didn't get an answer yet.. I'm afraid of buying Marshall's though, because of all the talk about the ****ty models, and the good models..And I don't know which are good and which are bad, maybe I should invest in a Laney GH100TI as I've been thinking about, since it really isn't very expensive from new, and I'll get 2 years of guarantee on it. And besides - the sound Tony got with it on his new solo album "Fused" is killer, and friggin heavy. I don't think the Marshall would be able to do anything like that anyway.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

I am not a huge fan of the 900's but if my choices were the Laney or a JCM 900...I'd take the 900 and not look back.

You have been mentioning tons of amps bro...you have to ask yourself...what do you want, make a decision, save your money and go get it. If you buy an amp you've never played through that's ok too...but it, try it, and if you don't like it sell it and buy something else at lease then you will know what you like and don't like.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

I know I have been mentioning alot of different amps, but what the heck do you want me to do when I do not have the possibility to try them out? Then I have to ask people about experiences and stuff..How else could I find out about the product?

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

I was not getting down on you for asking lots if questions...thats one of the things this place is for...all im saying is that no matter how many questions you ask and no matter how many amps you ask about it's gonna comedown to you buying an amp and deciding on your own what you think of it.

I know you meant no harm, and I'm sorry for getting a little mad. I'm just very frustrated, there's so many amps to choose from, and most of them aren't exactly "cheap" :smack:

Could you explain why you wouldn't choose the Laney? Just not for the type of music you like, or..??

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

The old Laneys are pretty bad ass IMO but I just don't care for the new ones. But you might really like them...

Answre me this...

-What kind of tone(s) are you looking for?
-What is your budget?
-What do you need out of an amp?
-Head or Combo?

Snag that sucker. That is a 1990-1992 Hi Gain Master Volume model 2500 Mk III. They come with EL34's. It is a single channel with two master volumes (Master B for a boost). I own the 2100 model from the same series. theodie does too. These are great amps. I can tell you as an owner of one, these amps have a good amount of gain to them. Throw an overdrive or booster in front and get ready for some nice metal crunch. Back off the gain and they sound real nice for blues. I love mine and will never part with it.

As a side note, these aren't the SL-X model. These were before the SL-X (which is designated as Mk IV).

Grab it if you can. You won't be sorry.

Yup!!!! I have a 2100 just like Erik and LOVE it!!!!!! The 2500 is just a 50W version of it! I used to have a Marshall Slash 2555SL and guess which Marshall I still own? Yup, the JCM 900!!! Put some Sovtek WXT EL34's and some Sovtek LPS 12AX7's in there and you will be rolling!!!!

Someone says "JCM900" and everyone thinks they are the SLX or some other crappy sounding 900 but, the ones made between 1990-1992 are killer!!!!

Are you sure? Because then I'll grab this sucker. And then I'll save some money. What price do they usually go for?

Yes. I'm 100% positive. I can tell by the number of knobs, the jack on the left with the offset LED (that's the footswitch jack to switch between the 2 master volumes), and it doesn't say SL-X anywhere on the panel. Plus, the seller said it was a Mk III. Dead giveaway.

And he calls it "Marshall JCM-900 MK-3"

The forerunner of the 2500 SL-X , 2 footswitchable volumes, more gain and a better tone (imo) than the Dual reverbs, not nearly as "smeary" on the bottom end as an SL-X... to put it bluntly: the Only 900 series marshall I´d even consider buying, and I´d probably do it in a heartbeat ;)

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Cool, it doesn't have the original backplate I think

Isn't 625$ a good price? The sellers says it's in very good condition, no scratches or anything, and pretty new tubes. I think the footswitch is included too but I don't know.

Damn, I hope my dad comes home soon, so we can buy it, before it gets snatched :smack:

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

That is the original back panel, and for 625$ I´d drag it out from under your nose if I needed an amp ;)

Footswitch is a standard marshall a/b switch, but again, you can only switch between 2 Master volume levels, not clean/dirty ;)

BTW, if you can find a Soldano "Hot Mod" to pop in the second Pre-tube socket, you´ll have a weapon of mass destruction... had one set up like that for 3 years until someone finally came in the shop that didn´t want channel switching.... :firedevil

If I get it before it gets snatched, what cabinet/speakers would you suggest for it?

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

The standard 1960A is a good starting point. But that´s wholly dependent, like the choice of amp should be, on what kind of a tone you ´re looking for ;)

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Well, you're right, first I should probably just focus on getting it. And then I can research about cabs afterwards. I'm glad I didn't totally give up on it yet, only to find out afterwards that it was one of the good ones lol.
