Well, since there's no tech's here where I live, how could you bias-adjust it?

And does the fact that it only has 2 power amp tubes instead of 4, like the bigger version, affect the sound compared to the bigger version? Or will it sound similar?
I wouldn't want to mess with bias stuff, cause there lethal stuff in there that can kill you. Before doing that stuff I would look into amp technical books and other amp tech sites. I know you need a few tools to do like a multimeter and stuff like that. I think main difference is going to be the volume of sound you will be getting on high power. With low power the tone could be different compared to the low on a 100w version, I'm not sure on this one. The main difference really is only the volume you can get, but that really isn't a problem at all, cause you can mic amps when you need them that loud.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Well, as for biasing, I can't help ya there and I don't recommend anyone even attempting it without knowing what they are doing. So, you may want to ask around. There may not be a tech advertising in your town but there may be someone there who knows how to do it. You never know.

Keep in mind, 100 watts is not twice as loud as 50 watts. That is a common misconception. It's only a 3db increase in volume from 50 to 100 watts, which is really not much at all. I've heard some say the 50 watt sounds a little darker but I can't verify that since I haven't played one side by side with the 100 watt.

As for sounding like specific bands, that will all depend on you, the player. I could go plug in to Eddie Van Halen's rig but I"ll still sound like me and not him. You should be able to achieve some desirable tones with it, and a nice overdrive unit in front will help get some more crunch out of it but it has a nice amount out of the gate. When you get it, play around with it, find what sounds good to you in the settings and then go from there.

And just an FYI....you all have inspired me to revamp my Marshall MkIII page on my site so I will have an updated version up tonight. It explains a lot about these amps and answers a lot of questions, some of which were asked and answered right here.

Cool, feel free to post the link here when you're finished with it, I need all the info I can get :-)

And I won't mess around with any bias stuff then, I don't wanna risk my own health, or the amp's.

By the way, wouldn't sound clips be a wonderful addition to your site?

Maybe at some point. My cabinet is at my brother-in-law's in his garage where he and I jam and the head is at my house. I refuse to leave it there. The cab is one thing but the Marshall, she goes home. :D

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Ahh damn.. the reason why i'm asking all the time is because it'll be a while before I can afford a cab for my marshall.

Look for a 2x12. That will be perfect for playing at home. A 4x12 will be overkill unless you're playing outdoors or a large club.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

That was also what I was thinking about.. I'm not needing a big stack or whatever..Is there any 2x12 cabs you can recommend ?

Anyway, I'm heading for the bed now.. Another school day tomorrow. I'll either read it before I go to school or when I get home, thanks!

I was about to recommend Avatar but they don't ship internationally. Either one of the Marshalls will work, 1936 or 1922. Mesa Boogie makes a good one. I'm not sure what all you have over there so it's kinda hard to recommend anything else.

I know you can get these here:

Engl, Fender, Hiwatt, Koch, Laney, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, Vox

And that's the first ones I found, you can probably get more.

Nice page Erik..very informative.!

I think I may try and score one of the 50 Watt combos...switch her down to 25 watts...attentuate...

know how much they generally go for on Ebay?

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Oh yeah, the combos are cool. They're the same chasis flipped upside down.

Thanks, Jeff. I haven't seen any used on eBay in a while. But then again, I haven't look in a while either.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

By the way, isn't there something about the Marshall 1922 cab not being wide enough for the head? I mean, so it can stand on top of it.

Yeah, the 1922 is the smaller of the two 2x12's offered. The 1936 will fit a full-size head.

Maybe I can be lucky enough to find one used, in a pretty good condition. Then I won't have to break in the speakers first either, and I'll save some dough.

+1 on the 1936, yeah the cabinet works great with jcm900 2100 slx. You might want to get the 1936 as it fits the head better and there is more air space in the cabinet, I think that also adds more bass to the tone.

Theres a decent head and 2x12 combo HGMV MKIII up there right now..mostly dual reverbs though. I wouldn't *mind* a DR, but I'd HAVE to let Trace at Voodoo work some magic on it. The HGMV MKIII , prolly not.

The early DR's are really good, at least up until the changed to 5881's. With EL34's they have the mojo. I still remember cranking one up in the store I worked in back then. We had it hooked up to two 4x12's. Man, the feeling of a cranked Marshall stack behind you is awesome. Good thing the owner wasn't there that day. :D
