What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

i got a hot rails, but im not really diggin it. sounds a bit muddy with the 250k pots, i really liked it initially, but its just too much of everything. too much of a volume boost when im on the clean channel, too much of a gain boost when im OD. i dont really like my strat either. im either gonna go to GC one day down the road and just find a strat that just feels and sounds AMAZING and leave the pickups stock, or get a decent feeling one and drop the stack plus set in there. sooo in the future, either stock bridge strat, or stack plus.

I hate to hijack a thread but since we're on the topic of strat bridge pickups...

When using a bright vintage style (not overwound) single coil pickup, does giving it a tone control help reduce icepicky-ness?

Yes...it helps alot. Even when the tone control is on 10 some treble will leak through the 250K tone control and be lost to ground and mellow out that ice pick bright bridge single coil.

But better still is to go with a slightly overwound alnico 2 pickup like the Texas Hot Custom or Twangbanger.

I use alnico 5 neck and middle and alnico 2 for the bridge for that reason in most of my Strats with single coils.

Currently I'm using the JB Junior.... I'm not really digging it. But i'm planning on doing that mod to give the bridge tone control before I ditch it completely.
It's just too bright for me currently.
If that doesn't make me happy I'm leaning towards getting a SSL3. I think I might be one of those guys that doesn't want that much twang that the TB gives.

Seems to be the perfect balance for Strats.

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

I use a Texas Hot Custom bridge in my American Texas Spl, a Twangbanger in my California Series, and the stock SCN in my American Deluxe V-neck. I like all 3 of these after trying several others. I like the Texas Hot Custom teh best, followed by a toss up (but very different tones) between the Twangbanger and SCN.

DIY rewind of Fender Fat 50's -- 10.8k with a 7.4k tap.

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

My Number One will be getting a FRED in the bridge next week ... I have the pickup, but I'm waiting on a few more parts.

My 3S has a Duncan Classic Stack (old style). Excellent vintage output pickup.

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

To get the best all around tone from the Twangbanger, it is best to have a tone control working with it.

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

Duncan Antiquity, Suhr V60LP and Fat 50

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

So somebody add these all up and tell us which the most popular single, mini humbuckers and full size humbuckers. I can't. It's the end of the day, I have a cold and I can't think straight...:chairfall

Surfer Custom Bridge. This IS what a strat bridge was meant to be.:bigok:

got hotrails in mine. love the crunch when playing power chords below the 10th fret. i switch to my lil59 neck pup when getting up around 12

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

Currently, a Hot Rails, but that's coming out. I just got a DiMarzio chopper that's gonna go in next and see what I think of that, but when you come right down to it, the only rigs that I've been happy with in this thing where the HS-3 that it came with and the stock 89 Fender bridge pickup I got off ebay.

All that said, this Strat may go up on the block soon. I like a bit of twang as much as the next guy, but this is probably the most twangy guitar I've ever played. It's too much. I dunno.

(Doesn't help that I just rented an SG that is sweetness itself, and if I decide to buy, either the strat or the LP is gonna have to go. I think Meryl Streep was faced with a choice like this in one of her movies...)

Re: What pup do you use in the bridge of your Stratocaster?

I have an alnico Pro 2 bucker in one and a set of surfers in another

The surfer bridge is one of my favorite toens ever. Specially since my trainer YCV20 has been "Warmed up" you could say. and by that I mean it needs new tubes so it kinda took some of the ice pick off the surfers.

the AP2 is awesome, one of the best overdriven sounds I've heard, so smooth and yet gritty at the same time.

Both are in Mexican Strats btw
