ok I made a bold statement and said no one uses stainless strings
now I wonder....you dont........Do you?
I know the forum users here have some pretty nice axes and amps and care about tone enough to not have tried several different gauges types and brands
I never tried any deep frozen or coated strings but I have tried stainless strings and found them to have a horrible feel and responsiveness to them

GHS boomers have been my favorite sounding string since the 80s
followed by Ernie Ball

Re: What strings do you use

There's way too few poll options. Major fail.

Anyway, my main guitar has D'Addario XL Jazz/Blues 11-49s.

Snake oil strings - pure nickel strings. Aren't as loud, but last a LONG time and sound like they're broken in the moment you put them in. Stay in tune better too. More expensive than regular strings, but last so much longer it ends up being cheaper. I think guitar player did a review of them a while back, so I thought i'd try them, and they ended up being my favorite of what i'd tried. (I used to use ernie ball not even slinky's (.12-.56) tuned to standard e. I now use .11's but the difference is negligible, high strings a bit more dinky sounding, not the girthy sound I got with .12's but the low strings sound the same.

edit: when I say a bit more dinky, it's really by a small margin. And for how much easier they are to play, it's more than worth it to me.

I use and love Elixirs on electrics and acoustics. Well worth the extra money, IMO. My bassist pal uses Rotosound stainless steel strings, and they sound awesome.

Re: What strings do you use

The Ernie Ball Stainless Steels are great. Sound very crisp. Blue Steel OTOH sucks and break all the time. I uses to buy Maxima Gold strings and those were the best. But after I had them about a year they started making them differently and they broke all the time.

The strings I use regularly are DR's Hi-Beams though. They bend a little easier and seem to last longer and are hard to break. Great tone. Similar to D'Addarios except easier to bend :)

Re: What strings do you use

D'Addario's at the moment. 10-42.

But I kinda chop n' change.

I'm thinking of dropping to nine's on my Ibanez, ake wise I may try something new at some point.

Re: What strings do you use

Ernie Ball Power Slinky's. For one, I like this kinda gauge in feel - and the bigger tone is a plus. Other than that, I use this brand because I wanted a sting that didn't give my guitar's natural sound any extra spice like GHS Boomers (exta brightness, volume, etc), Dean Markley Signature Series (too crisp for me), D'Addario (distinct brightness), or any other brand would have on my tone. I find Ernie Ball's to sound perfect on my main axe. Tried 'em on another... hated 'em.

Re: What strings do you use

I use Ernie Ball on everything, but I'm trying Dean Markley Blue Steels on my Green Buddy, and they sound alright. Wanted to brighten it up a bit.

Re: What strings do you use

I've tried at least a set of every string maker I could find.

I liked GHS (Subzero) Boomers enough, I also liked Black Diamonds a lot.

I generally buy the cheaper strings but I think I'm gonna give the more expensive ones another chance since they seem to last longer...

Re: What strings do you use

Elixirs 10-52 on my Epiphone, whatever-is-on-the-store-except-Elixirs 10-52 on my Ibanez.

Re: What strings do you use

D'Addario...but thinking back on the first time I tried my Les Paul Studio and played on britewires im definitely going to start using those again as soon as I hit the Guitar Center up for my DiMarzio Evolution ( sometime this week).

Re: What strings do you use

D'addario both in acustic and in electric
im always changing the gauge from 10´s to 13´s so far they are the brand that i like the most
