I've used 14 gauge 50ft cables in the past for recording a tube stack (running the cables from the head in the control booth to the cabinets in an adjacent room), and even though the cable length may be construed as a hindrance, the tone was more open, fuller, cleaner (a more percussive overdrive), and the amp was more responsive to my playing.
