OK, before everyone calls in the cuckoo hospital, here's the idea:
*what i WANT is to balance an active pup (1) and a passive pup (1) using a volume pot (1x 25k) regulating the ACTIVE pickup... and, preferably, that's it
*BUT... I'd like to be able to cut the lower passive signal entirely somehow, like if there's feedback or mistaken level... you know?
*YET i wouldn't want to waste a push-pull functionality on that, if possible (have push-pull, gonna use that, wanna use it for the EMG 89's splitting instead)
*NOR, for the sake of an experiment in minimalism, would I want to add other pots, switches, etc.
Possibilities I see as possible:
1) obviously.... forget the full signal cut, set the active pup's hot "thru" the pot, solder the passive's hot to the 25k pot's {signal out} lug (or whatever it's called, you know what I mean), and send that all to the jack... OR just solder the {signal out} of the potentiometer AND the passive's hot together at the jack, same thing.
2) POSSIBLY...send BOTH pups through the 25k potentiometer? Now I know that a 500k will pretty much on/off an active, but what will a 25k pot do to a passive signal? IF it's gonna be ALMOST-FULL at 10-2ish and just-off @ 0, with weirdness around 1-2, that I can totally live with... or is it gonna be always-off-no-matter-what?? ...If BOTH passive and active signal are mixed before the potentiometer, it's gonna wreak different types of havoc on each of them, right, or will it do the same to both somehow??
3) POSSIBLY.... "slave" the circuit so the passive pup is the secondary/{slave}, and will always cut out if the {master} active is fully set to off by the potentiometer? BUT... it's 6am, my brain took *too many* punches in middle/high schools, and *too much* punch in college - how do I do that again???
Thx, all!
'
PS please, just entertain me or move along - DON'T debate the dubious quality of the results, just stick to the ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING part, will ya? I know for a fact it works out in some rare and weird combos, and don't wanna debate that... just replicate it or improve on that. Or, barring that, tinker for fun, like many others, yeah? Thanks you for understanding!!
