What would you pay for a SF Pro Reverb?

Kablamminator
I saw one in a local shop on consignment, and it was love at first sight! Unfortunately the price tag was a bit of a let down.

It had new Eminence speakers (didn't get a good look at the type), and one of the previous owners had put a black faceplate on it (the silver plate is included).

Let me know what you'd pay for it, assuming it were in good condition, then I'll tell you the sticker price on it.

Sweet amp:bigok:

Yeah, you have a BF one, don't you? Can you compare the volume to a Deluxe or a Twin Reverb? Does it like pedals?

Thanks!

That's kinda what I would think, but I haven't priced one in a while.

Mine is a SF chassis & modified BF innards/original '66 cab, so an actual comparison might not be right....I guess you could say I've never played either :D

The Deluxe 1x12 @ 22watts, Pro is 2x12 @ 40w, & Twin is a 2x12 @ 60w (I think).

My "Normal" channel has been converted to a 3-knob reverb & the "Vibrato" ch is typical BF....excellent cleans & loves pedals.

The Deluxe will break up for ya' no sweat (still loud)...the Pro is loud but will break up....the Twin will probably kill someone before it breaks up :D

A friendly neighborhood Forumite (TGWIF ) gave me this link, which is very informative: http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/

Click on the amp of your choice for the original specs :bigok:

Cool site! Thanks! I'll have to check if the amp in the store has the mid controls or not - I honestly can't remember.

Yeah, very cool site.....you can spend the whole day there.

I HAVE :D

Re: What would you pay for a SF Pro Reverb?

The pro reverb is a real nice amp. Its like....... half a Twin. It has 2 6L6 powere tubes and has 2 12" speakers. If my memory serves me I believe they were offered with Oxfords originally. The SF amps which were available from sometime in 1967 thru I think '76. The key is to avoid SF amps that have a master Volume. The MV amps had a large amount of circuit changes done to them. early SF amps non MV style are essentially a BF with a SF. I have a SF Super Reverb from 1968 and I have a SF Deluxe Reverb from 1967. SF amps are extermely good and a lot more affordable than the BF. I would espect a SF Pro to go for around 800 to 1200, depending on condition and what kind of mods that have been done to them. Even if it is in mint condition it will probably need caps if they have not been changed already. The pro is a very good amp.

Re: What would you pay for a SF Pro Reverb?

I have a '73 SF Pro Reverb. It's sounds great with stomp boxes and guitars with single coils. It doesn't sound nearly as good with modern humbuckers.

The original speakers were a bit beat up and tired so I replaced them with some Carvin British Series speakers.

But what would I pay for a the same 33 year old amp today? Well 13 years ago I paid 250. If this was going to be my main amp today I might go as high as 500 but not a penny more.

EXACTLY how I felt after playing a Twin.

The Twin is a nice amp, but WAY TOO MUCH AMP.

Some old fella was strumming a mandolin when I plugged into the SF Twin....he almost fell off his stool when I struck a chord.

Gave me a nasty look too :laugh2:

This is pretty close to the one in the store.

As for the store's price, the person consigning it wants $1500 Canadian (approx $1360 US). It seemed totally out of line to me for a silverface, and the posts here and the EBay auction seem to confirm that sentiment.

Maybe I'll go back to the store and see if they can talk some sense into the amp's owner.

Too high.

Be patient & the right deal will pop up.

In the meantime, save the money so you'll have the cash on hand when the opportunity arises:bigok:

Re: What would you pay for a SF Pro Reverb?

I've seen silvers in GC for around $1000. In good condition thats a fair price. When you consider BF Deluxes are selling for over $2500. Its actually abetter amp than a Deluxe in some ways. At 40W it has a larger amount of headroom than the Deluxe and can be used in a larger variety of GIGs because of the added volume it can produce. Suprisingly enough SF Twins as well as BF Twins are a lot less. A lot of people think theTwin will be more. At about 90lbs and 85W the amp is just not very user friendly to heavy and way to loud..............oh but those cleans!!!
