Dirty Little Secret, Crunchbox, I'll throw out the recent Boss Powerstack actually….

Boos Power Stack has a good tone really think but I for some reason it is way too noisy, more than the Boss Metal Core that has tons more gain. Missing ground at home but even with just a battery and no other pedals in the chain it is kind of noisy. It may be just my case, who knows, but the it sounds good.

Luckily, just about every OD pedal sounds good with a JCM800.

With my 800's, I've learned I prefer the Boss and MXR circuits more than Tubescreamer circuits.

One pedal that ironically doesn't get mentioned much is the Marshall Gov'nor II. It's practically designed to work perfectly with Marshalls. The Cmatmods Brownie is amazing. All the Barber OD's. Bogner Blue.
The JCM800 has such a great dynamic range and touch sensitivity that it gets along with virtually every OD.

Yeah, they should also be considered by the original poster. The main difference between them and the large ones is the red and blue were really designed as complete preamps for clean amps.

Another thing I should mention is to definitely try using the 2nd input on the JCM800. It's fatter and cleaner, so your dirt pedals will sound even bigger. Almost everyone neglects input 2. It's like owning another Marshall you didn't know you had.

DLS, Crunchbox, Wampler Pinnacle or Plextortion, Barber DDSS....I played through a J Rockett Animal the other day...very impressed with that one......also...Charlie Brown or Angry Charlie.

I would guess the best way to crunch a marshall would be to throw it out the back of a moving pickup truck.. LOL! Sorry been a long day, had to amuse myself..

I picked up a DLS MK3 last week. Sorely disappointed. I thought for sure it would be killer. Ran it through three different amps in several configurations, and just could not get anything that sounded worth a damn to me. Very buzzy, gainy, and just not superlead like at all. Returned it. Bogner Blue , Distortron, and Plextortion much more pleasing.

An Xotic SL Drive is a good Marshall-type OD/distortion pedal.

Another option is our new Palladium Gain Stage. It sounds like a hot rodded Marshall all by itself, but can also drive an already-distorted amp.

Well, you may have a point here but the noise too much, it really competes with the actual tone. The only thing I have not tried is to add one of those ebtech hum eliminators/isolators.

Is the "Crunchbox" or "crunch box" referred to the one from Ruly? If so, I'm going to try that sucker out. I am not willing to pay a lot of money for any pedal when used amps can be had so cheap, but an inexpensive pedal I'm always happy to try!

Here's an interesting blind shootout of the Xotic SL Drive, DLS mkiii and real deal Marshall. Take from it what you may.

(All three were plainly obvious to me, curious if others get the two pedals)
