an envelope filter makes your guitar sound FUNKY. Sort of like an auto-wah, but with more of a synthesizer feel. I have the maxon AF-9 and it sounds great. Go to the maxon website and listen to the clips. I also have an old boss envelope filter that sounds cool.

It's basically a wah that reacts to your picking attack, instead of being controlled by your foot. I've had the Mutron and the Electroharmonix Q-Tron. I prefered the QTron. If you get an envelope filter, don't waste your money on stuff like DOD, go straight to the EH Q-Tron fullsize unit. It's so cool, I regret selling mine. I want it back.

But there's a DOD one on eBay for $10 here in Atlanta, so I could pick it up. I figure it would be a good way to see if I like the effect. And a few pros use it so I figure it would work fine.Gearjoneser said:

For $10 id grab the DOD. I got one like 3 or 4 years ago when i first started getting into effects and its a fun pedal. if youve ever heard "she moves in mysterious ways" by U2, it can get a funky sound like the egdes guitar. I sold mine because it was kinda limiting, so if you want the real deal, go with the more expensive ones like metioned earlier, but for just messing around the Dod is pretty cool.

THE best envis the Q-tron nothing touches it, but go for the DOD for just testing.
