What's the best & easiest way to thicken up O/D channel?

I realize the overdrive channel is usually a little thinner sounding than the clean, but does anyone have any quick, easy tricks up their sleeves to thicken it up a bit so it's more comparable to fullness of the clean channel? I play an AVT50 combo. THX!

My friend has that amp, what settings are you using?

More mids...less bass?

And maybe a Boss DS-1?

Any more mids & I'm getting into that "mid honk" tone that I don't really care for. Maybe I'll just have to live with it until I get a DSL50.

Those avt50 combo's have never really struck me as being thin sounding in that they have sealed speaker cabinet.

What guitar are you using?

Fat Strat(C5) & Jackson V(Sh-5)

If you want fat, the only thing that will give you that is mids!
But you probally want the high ones!
EQ-booster or different speakers.

One difference between solid state Marshalls and tube ones are the width of the notes. You could try correcting it a bunch of ways, but maybe it's time to swap it for a a DSL 50, or another tube amp. Just a thought. Or at least run it into a good Marshall 4-12.

For fattening a tube amp, I'd say to put a GT 12AX7M in the first position and JJ's for everything else.

For a fat clean boost/Overdrive pedal, I'd recommend the Banzai Coldfusion.

I have an avt 100 and for lead I have
bass 3-4
mids 7
treble 6-7
precence 7

I get a nice thick sound

Thanks, I'll try it. I'll also try the GT 12AX7M.

Re: What's the best & easiest way to thicken up O/D channel?

Boost your mids, quit using that scooped mid configuration. Mids, not bass, are where you get the thick tones. Leave the bass to the bass.

Re: What's the best & easiest way to thicken up O/D channel?

Grab a boost and boost all frequencies. Tried an overdrive pedal with it yet? Always works. AVT's are typically not the thickest distortion out there, but it's definetely something you can work with! Keep it up!

Re: What's the best & easiest way to thicken up O/D channel?

Boost the mids and crank the volume. The boosted mids will sound funny to your ears for about a minute because you use scooped mids now. After a break, the next time you turn on the amp, it'll sound 1000x better to you.

Absolutely, unequivocably agree. Your leads will cut through much better because you won't be competing with the bass' frequencies.

Maybe try adding a compressor. It's an option.

Re: What's the best & easiest way to thicken up O/D channel?

Try to use Less gain then usual (Less is more).. more mids and more volume. Also, try using a pedal like a Tube Screamer or Boss SD-1 infront of your amp as a boost.

You can always use the Boost pedal with the DSL50.

oh.. and dont those amps have like 1 12ax7 inside?? if so, maybe look into changing that. or what that a different model Valvestate?

Mids: 5
Treble: 5
presence: 8.5
and turn that damn scoop button off!!! :)

and on the OD1 channel:

Gain: 8.5
bass: 5

mids: 5
scoop button: OFF!!!!!
