Re: What's The Difference Between Yellow & Red Fasels?
I've modded "alot" of wahs...When I've tryed the yellow and red fasels in the same wah and with the circuit being the same,I Like the red over the yellow...The red is slightly more vocal sounding...The yellow is cleaner sounding...The inductor in fact does make a difference and there are much better inductors and I don't use the dunlop fasels...The newer dunlop fasels(As Christian stated)do not sound like an original one...
I like the Fulltone inductors, the Whipple is nice, and there are a few really good "Clyde" style inductors available to us now....When I started modding wahs, pretty much the Fulltone inductor was king...You can no longer buy these inductors though...
The pot sweep makes a difference,as does what parts of the circuit get tweaked...A wah is a filter basically and when you tweak, you tweak to find the sweep sweet spots through the wah's range...It's a combination of components overall and not just one component..
I still use a 1993 Vox 847 that I Modded several years ago that blew away Teese's Picture Wah that I payed like $150 for...I returned that wah and had an 848 for awhile that I modded, but sold it....My 847 has a stack of dimes inductor in it and a Fulltone pot...I've done several tweaks and added a pcb power supply to it....Just a wonderful sounding wah...I've spent many hours trying out many different inductors also..
