what's the risk

hi tube friends, ...

if i want to run an el34 hotter than rated, due to i like the sound,
what risk would that mean?
what could happen in worst case, despite broken tubes and fuses?

well, i currently do it and cool the powertubes with a fan.
the case is not getting warm since i installed the fan and nothing
unwanted inside the power tubes is starting to glow after 4 hrs
of bandpractice.

if you want to know it more detailed ... (in case i wasn't measuring s***)
at a anode current of 390V i measure .76V instead of max .65V on my
resistor

cheers
Martin

*bump*

can a tube filure cause amp damage?
does cooling prevent fast tube death due to hot bias?

Re: what's the risk

Yes tube failure can damage your amp. OT failure, arced sockets, and replacing filter caps are some things to possibly look forward to.

Re: what's the risk

Basically running the tubes hotter shorten their life more. You tell if the tubes are dying if your bass is just mush instead of tight.

Re: what's the risk

Running your tube to hot will also draw more current from your PT. In short.., Stressing it and other component's.

interesting. that describes how the old tubes could sound so
bassless - they may be near death. i will not put them in the amp again

ouch, that's a good reason not to do this to my good old engl.

thanks everyone!
