BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok...

Seriously...

Two things...

Been up for a million hours here...

Yes.

Not a "big" SM57 fan myself.

Blame Mr. Webmaster on that... he's a recording "geek" and quite scary gee-tar player himself... thought it was "rad" or something.

Beyond that...

I'm putting together a massive overhaul...

What would you want to see on the front page? Graphics wise?

Keep in mind... this isn't a "studio".

People hire me for me. Hiring the talents as it were...

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

My brother in law works at a big kid's studio where a lot of big kids bands have recorded. One of the secret weapons of one of the big kids band's sound (and they sound great) is the Boss Metal Zone. Go figure.

A couple of years back a friend's band was recording. They'd recorded plenty of times before, they're experienced musicians, and my buddy has always had great guitar tone. My friend borrowed a bunch of Dist/OD pedals from me just to see what worked. He got my stuff back to me and said he LOVED the Barber Direct Drive. I think it's a great pedal, so I was excited to hear how he used it. When I heard that record, it was the tinny-est lack of bottom end, transistor-y sound I could ever have imagined. I hope that pedal doesn't sound that bad when I use it...

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Back again! My firewall just crapped out and blocked my net access; had to reboot twice before all was right again
Mr.Moose; Not so much what i want to see;More what do you want to achieve?
Do you want to showcase your services Eg pics of you at work maybe,or people you,ve worked for ;Or something of an Attention getting Display, not neccesarily, directly related to you.[Graphics and stuff]Or none of the afore mentioned?:kabong:

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

The More Hot channel on the HRDX. I'm sure that the bias was set cold, but I don't think anything will ever help. Worst sound ever!

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Pretty much all the guitarists at my school.

Worst one I've played through was Marshall MG...

Although when my rhythm guitarist and I started to jam a few years ago he had a 30 watt MG, and an Ibanez SG shaped guitar. I played a 70s Ibanez Jazzmaster copy that had an awesome rhythm tone but no sustain for lead guitar whatsoever, and my Marshall DSL - with which I always played the clean channel. That Jazzmaster sounded awful distorted.

He would set his gain, if I remember correctly, just over the point where it would "kick in" and he got a cool sound. It was like, it was so bad it was good - like a 60s distortion effect or something.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

As far as stuff on record, I'd have to say that "Now I Wanna Be Your Dog" really sets the standard for lo-fi crappy guitar tones.

.

Heretic!

That sound is awesome - it just works for that song man...it sounds like a beaten dog.

Worst = Boss Digital Metalliser. I used it in the 80s when I didn't know any better.

True. And I failed to specify that, unlike The Strokes' lead guitarists' tone, I actually kinda dig the crappiness of that particular tone/song. It's The Stooges, everything they did was real raw. Sorry I failed to specify earlier... I actually used to cover that song when i was in chop's band.

There's a difference between sounding bad in a crap way and sounding bad in a good way. I don't know how to explain it but it is an art sometimes.

Good questions...

Very good questions. I've been pondering most of that myself... the front pictured needs to be changed as well since I no longer own that Trident console...

Hmmm...

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Hmm, I actually like that kind of tone from time to time. (check out this video, I think the tone is pretty good)

The stroked Guitarist uses an original Jeckyl & hyde pedal, im not a stroked fan and i tihkn the updated version of the J&H is SO much better but i think the visual sound range of pedals is AWESOME, i will defend the pedal even though im not a fan of their particular sound/tone.

I know exactly what you mean...the way the Stooges did crap was a beautiful thing.

Unfortunately, I always tend to sound crap in a bad way...

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

The guys who go to a guitar shop, plug in a guitar with EMG's into a SS amp, and dime the amp distortion so they can pretend to be shredders. To me, that's truly terrible distortion.

Samoth's tone in the Emperor's song "I Am the Black Wizards" (In the Nightside Eclipse) is basically just fizz, and is without a doubt the worst distortion tone in a recording that I've ever heard. I think he achieved this feat on a SS Peavey. The live version is very clear and good, however.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

I've been able to make a variety of devices most people turn their noses up at sound cool.... at least to me, and I honestly don't care what anybody else thinks about how I sound.

As far as the worst tones, I've had a recent change of heart, tonally, and would be inclined to lump most bands currently referred to as metal into that. I'm speaking of the stuff that's so distorted that their guitar's volume could be on 3 or 10 and it still sounds the same.

For what it's worth, I've never thought Slayer's guitar tones were worth a ****. I remember before I'd ever heard them, I'd hear Kerry King talking about how his tone had all this "chunk and balls" coz he cranked the mids, then I heard them, and thought his guitar sounded like a transistor radio. As a result, I've always rolled my eyes at the people who think the mids must always be cranked.

I've always rolled my eyes at people who think in absolutes, it's just not a healthy way to operate. There are very few absolutes in this world.
