Whats your dream amp??

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Dream amp?

As in singular?

There are alot of amps I'd like to own for awhile to get an idea of what they're all about.....

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Easy, a Hot-Rodded Bassman LTD and a stock Orange AD30, and on either side of these two "BIG" amps, two Celtic 5E3 clones with 5U4's in 'em !

. . . i don't want much in life ;)

Re: Whats your dream amp??

that's tough...

the Fender Tweed Twin Custom sounded soooooooo good...although i'd still like a mid control on that layout! I know, i know, but i'm just anal like that! lol!

i think that amp (or something like it) with my pedals and guitars would be a wonderful dream!

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I can get pretty much everything i want out of my Laney halfstack. I guess beyond there i would just check out smaller combos. I wouldn't mind a cool lpow wattage brit-voiced combo of some kind.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I havent read the entire thread, but I kind of miss the days when I was ignorant enough to just think I either wanted a fender, a mesa, or a marshall. Seems that was all there was. unless you needed cheap, and you got a peavey. No internet to make you see all these different brands. Back then (not a long time ago, but 1991) I was the outcast, running a boss rack multi effect through a 125w power amp into a peavey 4x12.
Now days i cant even figure out which amp that I cant afford I want to dream of having. Too much information !!!!!
So whenever I get some stuff sold I will get me a valve junior and rock that.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Splawn ProMod with a Mesa 4x12 Rectifier Standard Slant Guitar Cabinet
or a
Mesa Dual Rectifier with a Mesa 4x12 Rectifier Standard Slant Guitar Cabinet
or quite possibly a
Krank Revolution Amp with matching Slant Cab

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Cornford Harliquin - handwired purple lovelyness only 6 watts but loud!

Re: Whats your dream amp??

When I was a youngster, I dreamed of owning one of each of the Fender Blackface amps, c. 1965; and at one time or another I have owned most of them over my career.

About 1995, I bought my first Mesa Boogie amp--the Mark III 200-watt Coliseum head listed below. The Mesa really changed my life, and it certainly helped to make me a better player. It remains one of my all time favorite amps to play through. So for the most part, I already have the amps of my dreams. Here's a complete list of all of my Mesa gear:

DC-3 112 Combo
Maverick 212 Combo (2)
Mark IV 112 EVM Combo
Mark III Coliseum 200-watt Head
Mark III Sim-Cls/EQ/Rev 112 EVM Combo
112 O-B Boogie
112 EVM Theile (2)
212 Recto Horizontal
212 C90/MS12 Halfback
412 C90/EVM Halfback

As you can see from my list of amps, I have several Mesas these days, and now I dream of adding a Lone Star Special and a Classic; a Tremoverb, a Heartbreaker, and maybe even a Stiletto Ace.

But I try to remember this important mantra--the amp, or even the guitar, will NEVER be the PERFECT amp. The ONLY thing that can be PERFECT is the LOVE that I put into my songs and my music and my life--the reward is perfect JOY. Sometimes, its fleeting--but it is a great feeling. The guitars and the amps are just tools--the power of self-expression is the joy.

Bill

What? no Blue Angel? -best amp Randall Smith ever made.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Six watts is loud; sixty watts is only twice as loud. Lots of people don't need as much wattage as they think.

Those Cornfords look nice!

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Me, too, but my dream amp wouldn't have the parasitic oscillation that's DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!

Troubleshooting that nagging stuff can be a nut-kicker. It's the worst part of building an amp and the most rewarding when you figure it out. :)

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Actually, the amp I'm jonesing for is one from Scott F. I'm just trying to figure it out financially.

Celtic Dierdre head and 2-12 cab.
Black on the outside, blood red w/Marshall cloth front, like Stratmans. Black chassis face with red chicken head knobs and red light.

Have I posted this before?

Now I need a new photo. Scott added a cut control, and I changed the settings significantly.

Gain: 1.5-2
Bass: 6.5-7
Treble: 3-4
Cut: 2
Volume: 8

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I have severeal amps I would love to own, but for my style, a rack setup would be better I think.

Dream amps:
ENGL PowerBall.
ENGL SE, both versions.
ENGL Fireball.
MESA/Boogie MkIIC+.
MESA/Boogie MkIV.
Fender Super Reverb.
Fender Twin Reverb.
Marshall JCM800 2203.
Marshall JCM800 2204.
Marshall 2203 metalface.
Marshal superlead plexi, 1968.
Marshall JTM45.
Soldano SLO100 I think it is (The hot rod marshall one).
Marshall 1987X 1972.

Thats some of the amps.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I have no idea. But it should have 2 channels: one with the clean sounds
of a little Fender tube combo and one with a screaming Marshall distortion
like a modded JCM800 head and cabinet. A spring reverb would be nice too :)

I've chop-sticked this POS to death. Rewarding, hell... I'm taking it over to Jeff Seal's shop some evening soon and get me some edumukation.

Cornford MK50II.

Played a few cornfords and loved em before, but the Mk50II blew me away, as did guthrie govan, the guy doing the demo on a small stand at the music live festival/show last year (uk)
