Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

Traynor by Yorkville... just click on the link in my sig for a great reason why!

I was first turned on to both Traynor and tube amps about 3 years ago now by my buddy Kenny. I gotta say Traynor makes a very underestimated and underappreciated tube amp! Not to mention their self-biasing circuitry makes them the perfect "Intro to Changing Tubes 101" for the noobs.

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

I dont even remmber what I voted for must have been Fender or other..but mostly Fender... hmmm

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

MATAMP
ELECTRIC
Orange / Nick Greer Amps
Marshall
Fender

In that order !

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

I have a Line 6 POD Pro going into a 482 BBE into a Carvin 100 watt stereo tube power amp. I love being able to get 36 different amp types out of one unit. I also love the fact that I can use my analog pedals with this setup also.

UPDATE!! I have sold my Line6 POD Pro and bought a Boss GT-8, which has more effects and better amp models. I also will have a harmonic converger for this set up which will allow me to play thru a PA / House system. I have come the the conclusion that at this stage in life, I just don't have the money, or energy to buy all the amps that I love so this is the next best thing. When I get the harmonic converger, I will be able to play any gig anywhere with just my guitar and gt-8.

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

Found a french fry between the seats in my truck today.

I think it may be older than this thread. :)

Still tasted salty, but lacked freshness.

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

Pfft. Other owns it. Their amps are killer! ...

But seriously, I started on a Peavey, which kinda sucked. I like the sound of tubed Traynors. Marshall was just a bit better. Fender tubes sound awesome. I would expect Mesa to be killer and I hope Orange is, there's something about Orange that makes it seem so cool although I've never played one.

But as for favorite, I would say Vox as IMO they've got the most affordable bottom line (practice and what not) which sounds the best compared to like Marshall and Fender. I also like their AD60VT (anything less than the 60 watt in the ADVT line sounds like arse).

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

I had to vote other because VOX was not listed. I love the sound of a AC-15 with a overdrive in front of it.

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

My all time favorite amp? Why it's the Fender Prosonic. This is what happens when you cross a mild mannered blackface Fender with a FLAMETHROWER!!
Looks are like a mild mannered blackface Fender

But those mild mannered looks are QUITE deceiving BREWHAHAHAHA :rocket::firedevil:argh::headbang:

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

I voted Fender.

However my favorite amp for clean tones is a Roland Jazz Chorus, and another of my favorites is the Marshall plexi amps (old ones of course).

The other really incredible amp that comes to mind is an old Hiwatt 50 watt head. I didn't get a chance to play through it, but hearing someone play through it, WOW!

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

I'm suprised brands like Vox and Traynor were not included in the poll for how long they've been around...

Have you ever A/B'ed the dirt channels of the Prosonic with the new SuperSonic ???

Many reviews say that the new Supersonic is what the ProSonic should have been all along - drit channel speaking !

I have, just recently.

I preferred the low-medium gain coming out of the supersonic. Some great tones there. Both amps start to sound quite 'mark era' boogie to me when pushed to high gain, which is hardly surprising considering that these are 6l6 amps with cascaded gain stages. The supersonic was a bit less full/bloated through the mids than the prosonic. If I had to make a choice between the two, I'd go supersonic for overdrive.

Than You for the feedback !

I have a Vox AC15, but would love to upgrade to something with more gain/tonal options.
I have looked at the Super Sonic for some time, but they are a bit pricey (new) for me at this moment :(
I am after the early Sabbath tone, slow, dark and very groovy !
Any ideas ?

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

I voted Marshall because it's the tone I keep chasing. Use 2 modelers right now, Line 6 AX2 and POD XT Live and all my main tones are build around a JCM800 model. My favourite amp that I have owned was a JCM800 that was stolen, and I have a Randy Rhoads signature on the way. Once it's paid for, I'm going to start re-visiting the Marshall head world, trying to find a 2203 or 2204 that sounds like my old one that I can still hear in my head.

Well Matamp may be outside your price range, but they'll hit the spot nicely. My friend/producer/bandmate is a dealer and he has the 'Green' reissue head. That thing is beautifully dark and fuzzy.

Closest you'd find to that might be a secondhand Orange retro 50. Steer away from the new Orange stuff, which is progressively more Marshall-voiced. One exception: you might want to check out the Rockerverb 50. that has a cool character to the overdrive due to the JJ6V6s it uses.

You may also consider an EL84 amp if you want a bit of fuzz to your amp overdrive. Good options include the new Genz benz black Pearl, or a s/h Mesa Blue Angel.

Unfortunately Laney have never reissued the classic Iommi heads: Supergroup or Klipp. They probably will one day, as vintage prices on those are creeping up. They aren't ridiculously expensive to buy out of the UK, though.

Also old Sound City heads will get you in the ballpark. But really all this stuff is pretty similar to a Marshall plexi. You could get a Plexi and do a couple of small mods to voice it like a superbass...
