Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

Have you ever A/B'ed the dirt channels of the Prosonic with the new SuperSonic ???

Many reviews say that the new Supersonic is what the ProSonic should have been all along - drit channel speaking !

James

I happen to currently have a Blond Oxblood Super-Sonic head as well as the Prosonic combo. It's not even close IMO the Prosonic kills the SS with both the cleans and crunch tones.
The Prosonic cleans don't have as much headroom but are fatter sweeter and rounder. It however is in the crunches where the Prosonic really pulls away. The SS is a solid workhorse classic blues to hard rock amp but the Prosonic will also get those tones and it's a firebreathing metal MONSTER!!!!
Cross a good Boogie with all the smooth liquid sustain on solos with the dynamics and sparkle of a JCM 800 then add some more touch dynamics to the mix and you have the Prosonic crunch channel.
NOTHING responds to touch and tecnique better than a properly set up Prosonic and I mean NOTHING!!

Re: What's your favorite guitar amp brand?

Well Matamp may be outside your price range, but they'll hit the spot nicely. My friend/producer/bandmate is a dealer and he has the 'Green' reissue head. That thing is beautifully dark and fuzzy.

Closest you'd find to that might be a secondhand Orange retro 50. Steer away from the new Orange stuff, which is progressively more Marshall-voiced. One exception: you might want to check out the Rockerverb 50. that has a cool character to the overdrive due to the JJ6V6s it uses.

You may also consider an EL84 amp if you want a bit of fuzz to your amp overdrive. Good options include the new Genz benz black Pearl, or a s/h Mesa Blue Angel.

Unfortunately Laney have never reissued the classiheadsc Iommi : Supergroup or Klipp. They probably will one day, as vintage prices on those are creeping up. They aren't ridiculously expensive to buy out of the UK, though.

Also old Sound City heads will get you in the ballpark. But really all this stuff is pretty similar to a Marshall plexi. You could get a Plexi and do a couple of small mods to voice it like a superbass...

Thank you soo much for the info !

I would love to have a Matmap/Electric, but those prices is nowhere near my budget :(

Do you know how the latest Laney TI-sig sounds "in real life" as the clip on their site sux !!! ...and i am non the wiser !

I also heard a super mixed review on the Oranges, and many a folk told me they sound NOTHING like the good -ol days !
I know it is an Orange, but how does the EL84 equiped AD30 Twin Channel sound ? Do you know ???

Cmon.. you have Crate and Line 6 listed and not Peavey?

I know Peavey has historically SUCKED, but the 5150 and JSX models give some of the best tone around. Recognize!:firing:
