I prefer the natural overdrive of a tube amp. I've yet to find a pedal that can reproduce that tone. No pedals for me.

I don't use distortion/OD either currently, mainly because my preamp gain is so complex that a box sounds rather crappy though it. However, my vote goes to John Spina's modded DS-1.

My favorite pedal is one of John Spina's modded TS-5's. It sounded so fat, and sweet. I've been trying to get a tone similar from my amp, and I can get close, but not quite.

So when I get the money, I might be lookin ya up to get one John!!

Does my Boss ME-50 count? I really like the Boss DS-1, Blues Driver, and OD2 pedals on it. Amazing!

I prefer Tubescreamers for their out of the box tone ....

my favorite of that type, though not named a tubescreamer, is the Maxon 820, that's reviewed on my site:

I've also been using my Maxon OD808, and I've been reminded what a sweet little pedal board-friendly pedal it is .....

John's mods are also nice and fat, like the Boss SD-1 he did for me, and I plan on sending him another tubescreamer to mod sometime.

Right know my favorite pedal would have to be my keeley modded dsl-1 into my super reverb. It's awesome

I would have to go with one of our own, John aka Stratdeluxer97's modded DS-1. Though I dont use pedals much because my amps rip pretty good on their own, it is quite a decent pedal.

When I get around to it, Stratdeluxer97 is gonna get my DS-1 and I have a feeling that it will become a mainstay.

When I'm not using my tube-amp's natural overdrive, I mainly use a modded TS-9 Tubescreamer. It gives me what I need for all my guitars, but I also like using the modded DS-1 I have also.

Does the Mod John does on the Boss DS-1 make a major difference in Tone from the stock DS-1?
