Who did the mod?

very little mods need to be done to the BD2...Basically just changing out all the can type electrolytic caps for tantalum..And a few tweaks to the board, but nothing extensive like the OS-2,DS-1,or SD-1 get..The BD2 is a pretty decent pedal as is...I like the Marshall Jackhammer stock also..

Keeley has mods for the BD2 on his website if you'd like to do it yourself...

Hey buddy,
Is your mod similiar to the Keely mod?

Not sure buddy since I don't have or have never owned any of keeley's pedals...My mods are my mods..... I have the schematics and my ears and I tweak until I Like what I hear...So far it's been working for me...

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

I heard a sound clip of the Keeley BluesDriver a while back and I was really impressed........ :32:

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

John, do you have any sound samples of your mods?

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

I have a customized MT-2 I'm now using for bass. I installed as switch to give a stock Indyguitarist/ Bass Boost option.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

At the moment a Marshall Guvnor 2 for its versatility and tone, that sounds very proffesional and just like a marshall.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

the guy who invented said:
For mild overdrive-Lovetone Brown Source
For full on distortion-Pro Co Rat
For 60's Fuzz Tone-Rodger Mayer Axis Fuzz
For over the top madness-Big Muff Pi

When I get around to it, Stratdeluxer97 is gonna get my DS-1 and I have a feeling that it will become a mainstay.

every once and a while I'm also known to use/abuse

MXR Distortion Plus
DeArmond Square Wave
Ibanez Tube Screamer
ZVEX Fuzz Probe
Bixonic Expandora

And one day I will find another Fender Blender...(what can I say, I love dirt boxes!)

Fire Inventor, I've always wanted to hear that Lovetone Brownsource. What a great name :laugh2: Also, your Z Vexx Fuzz Probe!

The Klon Centaur is the one OD I'll never part with. It's the only OD I've tried that actually improves the tone of the amp it's plugged into. It's basically like turning up the volume or gain on your amp. A couple months ago, I picked up the T. Rex Mudhoney, which serves as an OD or the chewiest Fuzz I've ever heard. It has some blatty undertones that are part of it's signature sound. It blats out in all the right places and swells in all the right places...really a cool pedal....think Hendrix meets Sabbath.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

Gear,

I will never part with my lovetone...of all the pedals I have ever had(and i've had a lot!)...it is the single best. Very mild...great overdrive with NO coleration of the tone, if you have a great guitar and amp it sound great...but if you plug crap into it and then plug it into crap(that was fun to say :laugh2: ) you get...you guessed it...CRAP. On it's most extreme settings with a humbucker you get a killer...well, BrownSound, and it just goes down from there...as for the Fuzz Probe...it's fun for making noise, and well...more noise. I bought it to do "whole lotta love" live...during the trippy section I would used the probe for thermin like howles and noise...very cool box, but like all Zacks stuff IMO, way overpriced...

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

G2D Classic overdrive. Crowther Hotcake. Two of the VERY finest boutique pedals money can buy, both made right here in Auckland, New Zealand.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

At the moment....

OD
- Natural (from the amp)
- MXR Wylde OD (Rhythm OD)
- Ibanez TS-9 (Lead OD)

Distortion
- Natural (rhythm distortion)
- Natural + TS-9 (Lead distortion)

Fuzz
- Effector 13 Sacred Fuzz
- EHX Big Muff

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

i use a seriously UNmodded TS7 TubeScreamer, which the 6v6's really love.

Does the Mod John does on the Boss DS-1 make a major difference in Tone from the stock DS-1?

In a word: YES!!!

Out-of-the-box, the tone was kind of harsh & metallic to my ears stock - not useful at all, even for $39.99.

Now I love the little beastie It's much warmer, and has more of an analogue feel to the distortion. The tone control is much more useful, and the range on the distortion knob is too.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

For fuzz, it's the Alex Saraceno (Blues' father) "Afro Fuzz." It's totally unique. I'm not sure what he's doing with it, but it's like putting a six-way version of the SD Pickup Booster's Resonance Switch on a Fuzz Face. It gives you a wide variety of tones from un-compressed distortion to over-the-top fuzz.

But at $375 a pop, you gotta pay-to-play.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

Best Fuzzface clone is the Fulltone '69, IMO. That's the one I use.

Best stock overdrive is the original MIJ Boss DS-1...only one I can a get a sparkling clear tone out of when I turn my guitar's volume control down and get a raging Satriani-esque overdrive when I turn my guitar's volume pot back up again. With my '54 Tele, a DS-1 and my '59 Deluxe or '51 Super I can go from Country Clean to Led Zep by just adjusting my guitar's volume control!

Best modded overdrive is John's DS-1...fatter tone and more overdrive but the clean tone is compromised just a little. Still much nicer than the the Keeley Seeing I modded DS-1 I had tho.

Re: What's your favorite Overdrive/Distortion Pedal

A Marshall Plexi with the gain halfway, boosted by a Keeley TS-9 Plus mod and a Keeley TS-9 Baked mod. Lots of sustain. :)
