Where to buy pickups?

Sorry, if this is a wrong forum, but where do you people buy
your pickups? I've been thinking about ordering pickups from
net stores because ordering them from the local shop takes
forever. I have been waiting 9 weeks for a new Duncan to
arrive. They said it takes one month +- one month -> two months
at most and the time is up, but nothing happened. I got
one white Custom Custom trembucker on order.

Do you know any good net stores that are fast and reliable?
I live in Europe so shops in EU would be better, but if there are
superior stores elsewhere they are not out of the question.
It's just that customs might give me some hard time, if the shipping
is outside of the EU.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

I've gotten stuff from Wymore Guitars and Martin Six String Customs and have had nothing but great experiences with both of them.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

Guitar Heaven (www.gtrheaven.com) in Tennessee has a HUGE selection of Duncans in all kinds of colors, etc. And they're cheap with free shipping over $100. They'll get it to you within a week.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

I bought off a dealer on ebay. Took 5 days to get to me in australia from the USA . 9 weeks -thats hell

Re: Where to buy pickups?

I ship internationally via USPS Air Mail for $9.00 or EMS (insured and trackable) for $28.00.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

Thank you guys for your answers. I've decided to do my pickup shopping
in the net. Seems to work better and faster. By the way, the local store
has not delivered my Custom Custom yet. It will be 3 months next week.
Don't know how long am I supposed to wait? Luckily I haven't paid anything
yet, so I've lost only time. Good thing is that I've done a lot of thinking
about the right pickups for my maple fingerboard Strat. However, I'm still
uncertain which would be the right one for my needs. Lately, I have decided
to have something a little more powerful than old PAF-style pups. I think
I'm going to try JB or Full Shred or Custom (again). CC has the warmth that
I love, but maybe I need something more aggressive to cut through with
the band? Well, guess this is an endless search.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

I know Thomann. A friend of mine has ordered musical products from
them many times. They are reliable and usually pretty fast too. However,
if you only want one pickup the shipping cost (20 euros) is a little high.
But not much, if you compare to the shops in my town.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

Good to hear for the reliability. I just saw that they shipped my pups today.
In my town they sell pups for 125 euros. So for me net shops are a better solution as I payed 182 euros for 2 pups instead of 250. Even for one pup is better. The other thing is that buying from local shops takes too much time. One time I'd been waiting for 2 months.
How did it take for Thomann to deliver the products to your friend?

Re: Where to buy pickups?

If I remember correct, the shipment takes about a week if they have
the items in stock. If they have to order them somewhere it may take
longer, but they inform about it anyway. You said they've already shipped
them? Then it should not take too long. Depends on how fast is your local
post office, I think.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

I bought my pickups from here: www.music123.com.

They are an excelllent online company & the money saving is immense for if you live in the UK.

Music123- £155/$279 (including shipping).
UK Shops (cheapest)- £265/$477

So £110/$198 saving aint too bad!!!!!

Re: Where to buy pickups?

Hey rivera, and other guys what about the additional taxes? Here in Greece, when you buy something outside Europe.. you pay a lot of taxes. And the only solution sometimes is thoman. This link www.music123.com is a US online shop, how did you order your pickups to UK without paying VAT? Because if you paid, then you lost.

Re: Where to buy pickups?

Hey DeMaio I'm from Greece too. Do you know any other european online shop? I'm tring to find an Original Floyd Rose and Thomann doesn't have it.

Sorry I can't help you in your question.

Well i personally didn't do anything but i didn't have to pay import tax.

I'm pretty sure the shipping covers the VAT cos it's $49.95 so that aint cheap. It probably covers it cos that amount for 3 pickups iis too much so it's probably included in the shipping oherwise i got away with it!

Re: Where to buy pickups?

banjomikez on EBay. I've bought 20 pickups off of him. He owns Mike's Music in Harrisburg, PA. Good prices, free shipping, and I've gotten all my pickups the day after I ordered them. He sells all the major brands in every color/type. He sends free stickers, keychains, and winders in the box. Can't recommend him enough.

You must have caught customs on a good day! I've had pickups get through without being charged VAT and have had to pay it on other occassions so its the look of the draw. The $49.95 doesn't include VAT as US companies wouldn't collect VAT for our government. Buying withing Europe is different as you pay VAT at source.
