How many high gain amp demos can YouTube possibly have? It seems like all the best shootouts are of high-gain stuff being played that way.

I can't listen, no headphones today at work, but I've gotta disagree here. I can never find good metal demos of anything, especially overdrives. It's always some numbnuts playing the same blues licks as the other 35 demos.

To these cranky old ears, most of the clips sounded like I'm using a jackhammer to play my colon through a Metal Zone. On the bright side, some of the differences were interesting. I'd pick the Engl preamp with the Marshall power amp; the combination seems like it has the most potential for types of music outside of Real Life Giant Construction Equipment for Kids.

Don't know where you go to listen to high gain amp sounds !

I thought they all sounded very similar. The solid state marshall was the biggest difference and it had a cool sound... Almost retro lol... I think I liked that or the Dual Recto the best. I'll agree that the mesa studio pre was a little muddy, but could be dialed in bad.

I'd gig with any of those amps and be satisfied for that genre. Cookie monster called... Wants his voice back

I thought they all sounded very similar.

Because they were all running through the same cabinet. For the preamps, they were all running through the same power amp.

Basically that video showed you that all of those amps are capable for the sound they were demonstrating.
