Or at least make enough noise to be rescued.

Hmmmm... on second thought a loud Marshall on a full stack could be a better idea...

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

10 SD forum members sitting on deserted islands in the Pacific Ocean = the next tsunami?

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

Bump from the grave for more votes. :D

3 years???

Glad I was smart enough to go with the Vox, I wouldn't change that ;)

Wow... I mentioned the Hughes & Kettner Triamp back then, man if I only knew then what I know now! :D I think I was going through the honeymoon phase of that amp during that period.

Oh yeah, I'm concerned here... where the heck is the 50w Marshall small box plexi??? The Bluesbreakers and JCM 800s are nice, but c'mon here... we're talking "desert island" material :)

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

100w Superlead, full stack with greenbacks, nuff said!

And you can use it to signal passing ships, planes or anything in orbit!

I'm torn between the Bassman and the Bluesbreaker. Both are really cool.

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

That's tempting to me, but I'd take the Gretsch and an AC30. I know from experience that I can get some great rockabilly tones out an AC30 and it's responsible for so very many of my favorite rock tones of the last 40 years.

And if I can sneak in a pedal or two in my bag, I could even satisfy my occaisional metal urges. But those, while fun, are very far down my priority list.

I'd take the Bassman. And I'd take a Gretsch of some sort.

Who needs versatility?

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

Mesa Boogie Mark IV.

Although I prefer the tone of an AC30, the Mark IV has more options for me tonally, and I might be stuck there for a long time..

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

Of those JCM 800, but I'd take a Marshall Major. Yes, I kinda like Blackmore.

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

Trainwreck? Good call.

These days, it would be none of the above.

I'm crazy about the Fender Princeton Reverb amps with the Weber C10NQ speakers that my brother Bruce fixed up and modded for me. For my style, those and my two blackface Deluxe Reverb amps with the Celestion G12H30 speakers are the two best amps I've ever owned.

It just doesn't feel comfortable to me to play louder than those amps get, but if I was going to play loud I'd do it with my Matchless Chieftan or Bruce's latest Mission Aurora amps. The Mission Aurora is very Vox-like but with reverb. I think it's design owes something to Bruce's close friendship with Ken Fischer and their exchange of ideas before Ken's passing.

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

from everything ive heard, ken was a terriffic guy and very giving with his knowledge. lots of figures in the modern smaller amp builder world have nothing but praise for him.

ive never heard a real wreck but ive played a few copys that were inspiring

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

i think this thread bump was due in part to my referencing it as the first post i ever made on this iteration of the SDUG forum .... i think that it was from the first full day that this board was in operation

i voted mk iv then ... i think i'd vote for a fuchs ods 30 slx now

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

I take none of them. I'll take a Line6, HD147 or Vetta II. I wouldn't be particularly happy with either, but when your tubes burn out in a year or less, I'll still be rocking out. :headbang:

If tubes aren't an issue, I'd probably want a high end channel switcher. Never played one, but a Ecstasy sounds like it's right up my alley.

Re: Which Amp to your Deserted Island?

So, which amp would you take with you on a deserted island, assuming the Professor was there to create electricity out of coconut milk...

Coconut milk - YES!! I voted for the Mesa because you only said mp and not pedals or processors. That amp will yield the most gain plus go clean. I think it would give me the greatest versatility of all the models you offered.
