While from the look of my collection, I’m pretty well split. I do tend to gravitate toward 24.75 scale guitars. I like the feel of the strings more so than on 25.5 scale. Plus, I feel like the shorter length imparts a tad bit of growl to the tone that I don’t seem to get from 25.5, it’s probably mostly in my head, though.
I only own two 25 scale guitars, my PRS hollow body (HB 1), and my Carvin acoustic / electric.
Both of my full on acoustics are even roughly 24.75 in my granddad’s 000-18 and my newish Collings CJ-35

I think I notice 21 vs. 22 frets somehow more than I notice 22 vs. 24 . I tend to use whatever frets are available yet don't really miss them when they're gone. I do get people disliking the neck pickup sound from 24 fret guitars.

I tend to agree with both of you. I definitely notice if I am on a 21 fret guitar, which is why I don’t own one. On the other hand I usually don’t notice the difference between 22 and 24 frets from a playing standpoint. I don’t miss the extra two frets one iota when I’m playing a 22 fret guitar, but at the same time if I’m playing a 24-fretted and doing some freestyle soloing I will go ahead and take advantage of the extra couple of frets (although I don’t spend a LOT of time up there).
I definitely like the richer, fuller tone of the neck pickup on my 22 fret guitars better than their 24 fret counterparts though. I guess that’s the trade-off.

Thinking about this a step further- If we're talking bass, I do notice. I really don't like 30" scale basses, 34" scale feels/sounds a lot better (have owned/played Ibanez, Fender & Gibson short scale basses.)

longcat has a Squier Bronco short scale that's set up for a Jamerson-style tone with a Cool Rails bridge pickup & La Bella flats and it works really well. Other than that I don't care for the sound or feel of a short scale bass.
