which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

Re: which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

staggered poles are good if you use vintage 7.25" radius to about 9.5" maybe. anything from 9.5" onwards should suit flat poles. flat poles are also good for modern string sets without a wound g.

we have a few fellow forum brothers who are duncan dealers. they do ship worldwide.

where can i find out what woods mitey mite use for their body...im wont too happy if it is "baseball ash" haha so are there any diffrences between the APS1 alnico 2 pro and the APS2??? is one staggered and one flat?? what is the diffrence. sorry for all these quetions...i have no clue bout single coils

Nah it's ok, that's what we're here for.

Uh, Mitey mite? Who is that? Anyways, I would just get something made from a decent ash. However, the Alnico II Pro is a humbucker. There are neck and bridge models for it. As for the Alnico II, they're single coil, and the "flat" one has the magnets flush with the top of the bobbin for more modern guitars, while the staggered has pole pieces that are situated for a more vintage guitar. I have a "more modern" Ibanez (or at least I think it is) and I have a STK-S4 in it. The pole pieces are a bit staggered but it works out fine. Anyways, I think it's about fretboard radius and string height, but I'm not totally sure.

The Alnico II series single coils, i.e. the flat and the vintage, those two, are NOT hum cancelling. Almost every strat I've played has those traditional pole pieces and I've never actually had problems with that (but I don't play in front of a wall of speakers either). In position 2 and 4 on an all-alnico-ii-single-coil lite ash strat, however, you get hum cancelling since the middle pickup is reverse wound and reverse polarity (RWRP), so it's ok. Besides, most new and decently-modified guitars have enough shielding, and assuming your cables and amps and effects are in good shape, you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

im most likely going for the APS2 (flat) in neck position... APS1 (staggred) RWRP in middle for single coils and a Custom Custom Trembucker in the bridge...which i plan to split/tap the coils

how does that sound?

the guitar will be tuned to Eflat/drop C# so i can switch between clean & slightly distorted blues to full on distortion ala Alice in chains, pantera.

ill have a look at those websites and hopefully they will stock all 3 of those pickups....unless you guys help me change my mind again haha. im not having much luck.

i just want to buy the pups so i can ponder over what bridge/tuners to get haha what a headache. cheers for all the advice and wisdom and again...one of the better forums ive visited.

what a bout the new classic stack for the neck position with the APS RWRP in middle...so i can get hum cancelling all round?

how does the classic stack neck compare to the APS2 neck for clean bell/glass tone im looking for?

I was told the Custom Custom has a definite vintage/hard-rock vibe (PAFish) going on. I've heard the Alnico II single coils before, and they're totally awesome in terms of vintage sounding tone. As for Alnico II Pro humbuckers, Slash uses them: think neck humbucker for the intro to Sweet Child of Mine (with tone knob rolled all the way down, or supposedly that's how he played it).

LOL I know the feeling.

Anyways, APS2 flat is alnico II, it will sound good, I've played a guitar with one. SSL1? I don't know if I've played a guitar with it, but it's vintage and alnico V, so it should be a good compliment to the APS2.

The custom custom, I've heard a clip of it before (search for my thread with basically the same idea as this one and there's a guy that posted a clip of it at the bottom of the thread). To me it can just barely do metal, it's more of a hard-hitting sound with a slight bit of vintage in it. Think AC/DC possibly.

Re: which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

RE - Custom Custom...
thats ok i have plenty of metal guitars anyways (EMG,JB,INVADER)

the other option in place of hte CC would probably be the '59 trembucker
i have a '59 humbucker in another guitar (neck and bridge) and love it.

but i would like to make this a diffrent guitar for hte collection.

i might just buy the tuners and bridge first and ponder over the pups for a few more weeks...or forever! haha

Re: which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

the cc is a must have. at least you got your bridge bucker confirmed.

Re: which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

ok ive had enough!... final decision is CC Trembucker, SSL2 RWRP Middle , APS2 neck.

how much of a volume drop am i meant to be expecting from neck/middle to CC???

DO i have to buy covers for hte SSL2 and APS2???

Also i want to wire the CC so it can be coil split...if i buy a push/pull volume pot do i need the dpdt? switch (just looking at the list of stuff on lewsguitar.com)

with the 5 way switch is -
position 1 (neck)
position 2 (neck+middle)
position 3 (middle)
position 4 ???
Position 5 Custom Custom (bridge)

and push/pull volume is custom custom in split mode???

this is following the diagram

That's not hard to do already. You could just wire the standard Fender 5 way switch in there. As for split in position 2 and 4 (with 4 being bridge + middle), you can do it if you want. Me, I prefer to have more options for future use, so I'd wire a standard 5 way and make the volume and tone knob push/pull so I can separately enable/disable the split functions. But hey, that's just my preference and my opinion.

Re: which pickups ASH BODY + MAPLE NECK/EBONY FRETBOARD

so if i wired it up the way i described in my previous post..

would position 4 be - Middle + Full Custom Custom bridge?

and when i use push/pull to split the Custom Custom...
position 4 would be middle + split CC bridge
position 5 would be CC bridge split

im guessing the Push/pull wont have any affect on positions 1,2 and 3 then?

what are the posibilities with the 2 push/pull in a H-S-S combo?
would i need one 500k vol. push/pull and one 250k tone push pull and just one normal tone?
