Re: Which Seymour Duncan pickups sound the most like Fender Texas Specials, but bette
I have the Duncan Texas Hot Antiquity sets in a couple of G&L Legacys, with the RW/RP middle and the Power bridge. IME, they sound nothing like the Fender Texas Specials...they're darker, richer and smoother.
My G&Ls come stock with the G&L CLF-100 sets, very close to the flat top SSL-2s that they used to come with. I have several of these guitars with the stock pickups.
I would think that the Antiquity Surfers or the staggered SSL-1s would be a better bet, or perhaps one of Duncan's hotter single coils, for getting close to the Texas Specials.
Personally, I don't care for the Texas Specials, finding them edgy and grainy. The T-H Ants are a nice change up from the bright, vintage sounding SSL-1/2s.
