Which Straplocks?

Im interested in knowing about straplocks. I like larger strap buttons, and a couple sets of Straplocks I've tried so far don't fit over them.
What straplocs, why, and any that fit over larger buttons?

Re: Which Straplocks?

I got one of these and it works really well but tell me what guitar you're going to be using:

Dunlop dual design. I like them because you can also use them as a regular strap button (with or without the insert installed into the end of the button).

Re: Which Straplocks?

I like Schallers or the Gotoh oversized strap buttons as first choices. The ones from Guitarfetish are nice too. Had a set on one of my guitars that I sold a few years back. Held really good. Just gotta keep the assembly lubed up like any of them. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Schaller. The Dunlop mounting system is flawed from the get-go - if those ball bearings give, you're screwed. If the locking pin on the Schallers fail, you've still got to try REALLY hard to get your straps off accidentally.

Re: Which Straplocks?

You don't need no "straplocks"!
Why in the old days we just took a length of bailing wire an' twisted it around the headstock and button at the bottom an' we did jes fine.

You young whippersnappers and all yer fancy dancy doodadds.

...unless the nuts come loose or the strap lock half saws the strap button in half.

Both of these things have happened to me...

Re: Which Straplocks?

I've got three different types on my guitars, one unknown, one ernie ball, three sets of dunlops. I prefer the dunlops, I've never had an issue with them.

Re: Which Straplocks?

I can't stand the look of those bulky ass things.

DiMarzio straplocks are perfect for me. Simple and guaranteed not to eff up.

Re: Which Straplocks?

The Schallers dropped my guitar, so I switched to Dunlop. The DiMarzio ClipLok is good too, has a bit of an 80s vibe though.

Schaller strap locks are the first thing I put on any of my guitars...

But yes, for the LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, tighten the nut on the strap portion with a wrench. If you just finger tighten it, the strap can slip off the straplock.

That being said, once the strap is on there securely, the straplocks do not give very easily. I feel very comfortable jumping around without ever fearing my guitar will slip off the strap.

Double wrenched all mine and dropped or almost dropped several guitars.

I know a lot of guys use Schaller locks but count me out.

I also put clear nail polish on the threads after installation. The nut isn't going anywhere after that.
