which would work with a Duncan Custom Sh-5b?

Hey all,

I've got my sights set on a Duncan Custom SH-5 for a bridge pickup in my basswood Ibanez and I'm stuck on what will compliment its tone in the bridge. I've been thinking about the SH-2 Jazz as the videos I've seen has it handling high gain very well and doing great cleans, and I've been looking at the SH-1 '59 as it was recommended on the Duncan Custom page. What would be up my street for drop tuning to C# and B while performing on a high gain channel?

Thanks!

I have a Sh-1n paired with my custom in a mahogany ibanez artist and it pairs VERY well. The sh-2n is also a good choice. It's brighter than the sh-1n but that's a preference thing. What tones are you looking for?

I paired the SH5 Duncan Custom with a Pearly Gates neck in a Strat for years and thought it was a great rock n roll guitar.

I got a 335 and stopped playing the Strat and eventually I sold it.

But the SH5 and PGn were perfect together for me. Just a great combo for blues and rock guitar.

+1^ That's the next pair I intend to try. All accounts point to perfection.

I'm looking for a Metalcore sound all together, but have the neck distinctive and versitile. I want a tone from the bridge that doesn't go thin once gain is introduced but I want character and mass. I'm open to trying something new sound wise but need to know which outputs would work well with the SH5 bridge.

Have you already bought the sh-5? If not look into the black winter set. It's made for the heavy. The custom is a great metal pickup but it may not please you

+1 for Black Winter set

SH-5 tuned in C# or B tends to be boomy, IME (drop C is as low as I can go with that pickup and the low register is already massive in that tuning). Unless that's what you're after.

I could see the custom being the right choice if you were into playing stoner rock/metal, but the black winter set is designed for your goal. Plus, the neck is very versatile.
