White Korina blanks?

Anywhere I can get a one piece one? Preferably 2 inches thick, 14 inches wide, 16 inches long? Google wasn't helping me much. Did find a 2 piece though which is fine but I'm going for a translucent finish so I'd like the grain to be PERFECT, and I'm willing to pay a bit extra.

Re: White Korina blanks?

The only other option I can suggest would be to check the yellow pages for exotic lumbers.

Oh yeah: Warmoth. You can buy blanks from them (pre-routed, if they'll do what you want). You *will* pay for a one-piece, though.

I'd go through a local hardwoods supplier. Here is my local shop, where I get all my guitar wood. They are great. Don't be deterred if you don't see what you want on their Website. They can track stuff down for you, and it's not really designed as an Internet type of business anyhow. http://www.arroyohardwoods.com/

Like my old man says to me, "why would you buy would from a guitar store? You don't buy guitars from a wood mill...."

Meaning, check out wood mills and wood stores, there's bound to be someone who will have Limba available without you having to pay the excessive mark up that luthiers suppliers out in woods.... And like Itsabass says, many of them will be willing to track down what you need

Warmoth usually provides only mahogony, alder, and swamp ash blanks retail.

Re: White Korina blanks?

Call USACG and see if they have anything they will sell you. They do supply alder, swamp ash and mahogany blanks so they may have korina or be able to get it for you. Other than that...local lumber suppliers etc would be a good way to go.

Re: White Korina blanks?

Gilmer Exotic Woods is where I bought my 1pc blanks from...20 years ago. Just checked there site and they have very little white limb in stock. I think I saw a couple expensive 2pc blanks. Not sure the dimensions though.

Re: White Korina blanks?

Check out condonlumber.net
They have limba/korina and many other exotic woods.

Re: White Korina blanks?

A one piece limba black in that size is nuts...you'll likely never find one and if you do you'll have to drop an arm and a leg to buy it.

Why are you so hung up on one piece???

Re: White Korina blanks?

^^ Really. If you want to make a V go thru neck with wings. That sheet ain't worth it.

Re: White Korina blanks?

And the V's were most likely a few pieces anyway. Especially given the likliness of large boards to warp, I'd go 2 piece. You can even do an angle cut and add the final wing bits if its for a V and size is a problem.

And you don't need 1 bit if they're well matched.

Can you see the join in this board. I can't even looking at it from 1 ft away. I need to look at it from the side.

Re: White Korina blanks?

1 piece was just an "oh yeah I'll see what I can do" kind of thing. I'm not so hung up on it so much as I think would be nice and would go out of my way a bit for it. Chances are I'm going mahogany anyway since I can get a much better deal at the moment. Not looking to make a V, more similar to an LP shape, and I would actually prefer white to black limba.

Re: White Korina blanks?

One piece bodies are a lot of hype IMO. I've heard guitars that were 3, 4 even 7 pieces and the guitars still sounded amazing.

As for the limba vs mahogany there is quite a difference in tone but due to the rarity of real limba there will be quite a difference in tone too.

Sounds like me; I want to make a neck thru version of a Nighthawk with Korina wings.

I heard it was a very subtle difference from warmoth, gibson, suhr, guitar player, etc.
