I don't think there's a panacea, one-size-fits-all perfect tone. It really depends on the context. Some guys NOT on the list:

>I always loved Yngwie's tone from the very first Rising Force CD.
>Lynch's tone on 'Under Lock and Key'.
>Randy Rhoads on the 1st two Ozzy albums.
>Jeff Beck on 'Guitar Shop' and 'Amused to Death'.
>Enrick Garcia from Dark Moor has a great guitar tone, as well.
>Lifeson's tone from 'Caress of Steel' through 'Power Windows': always different, but consistently amazing!

Take your pick: Duane Allman, ****ie Betts, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks...IMHO...:usa2:

hard one...
i'd say jens ludwig (german power metal band EdGuy)
or gamma rays henjo richter (both appeared on Avantasia part1 and 2.. musical masterpieces!)

hmm.. i like the tone the guys from demons & wizards had in blood on my hands.. talk about chugging lol.. like a buldoser is ripping up something

also the maiden boys tones they had on rock in rio. also malmsteen

what else.. well anything thats high gain, but yet full and subtle, not screaming through the ears. it's got to have force =)

on another note, i also like some b.b king tones and marvin taylor too

Of the people that you listed, I like Satriani's tone a lot. I've always liked his live tone. I also played through the new Peavey and it's a great sounding amp. I also think that Mark Tremonti from Creed has a great tone. I love the sound of the fifteens mixed with the twelves.

As far as tone goes, not playing or anything like that.

EVH wins hands down.

Just listen to "Van Halen - Respect the wind".

Magical, Majestic tone.
The kind of tone I'd expect when I go to Heaven.

Soaring massive sounding tone, while remaining clean enough not to growl at every note.
Awesome.

I like Coco Montoya's tone, and Sonny Landreth's ... they maybe aren't real well known, but amazing tone, nonetheless

i havent read them all, but the following tones are personal favourites of mine:

Wes Montgomery.
Zakk Wylde.
Larry Carlton.
Ronnie Jordan.
Darkness guys.
Slash.
Prince.
Lenny.
Angus Young.

and one of my all time favourite tones...Brian May!

Some fine names on that list, but as far as tone, SRV did it all right!!!!

My personal favorite tone comes from a guy named Brian Blush while he was with the Refreshments. He played an old beat to he!! LP Goldtop with...tah dah...SD JB neck & CC bridge thru a Matchless Cheiftain....GOD D@MN, sweet tone!!!!

BTW.......anyone ever try a JB in the neck???

Umm...probably showng my age here but: Peter Green, Mike Bloomfield, early Santana, Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck and Roy Buchannan come to mind.

I' ll have to say:

Tom Scholz/Barry Goudreau (early Boston sound, plexi tone)
Alex Lifeson (from Rush-Moving pictures, Limelight)
Billy Gibbons (has a very unique signature tone)
Gary Richrath (when he was in REO Speedwagon)
Mick Jones (Foreigner)
Young Angus (AC DC)
Trevor Rabin (when he was with Yes)
Duane Roland (form Molly Hatchet- Flirtin' With Disaster)
Neil Schon (from Journey- Escape, Stone in love)
Ian Crichton (from Saga- Saga, Silent knight, images at twilights, worlds apart)

More modern tones:

Ross Childress & Dean Roland (Collective souls, Can say I'ma a true fan but they have good guitar sound)
Matt Roberts & Chris Henderson (from 3 doors down, Not a fan either, but they have some cool tones)
