d***t!! i have had zero GAS for awhile now. as a matter of fact recently i had a public apology to my peavey classic where i enthusiastically sang its praises. but this little hottie has caught my eye:

has anyone played it? recorded with it? i briefly messed with it over the weekend at GC but it was before i was interested in one. i only used it as it happened to be near an SG i was playing with to kill time. but now i can't stop thinking about it. one thing i love about the vox is that it is switchable from 4 watts to 1 watt to 1/2 watt. i know 4 tube watts is loud but it's small enough to put in my closet and crank if need be. seems like you can get great cleans and some good grit as well.

oh yea, i also love the simplicity of the contrrols: volume and tone (besides the 4-1-1/2 watt selector).

I have it and its great for the money. Does cleans well. With humbuckers (I have alnico 5) it gets a bit messy / muddy when you push it real hard. I had to get an EQ also because it sounded a bit muffled and lacked some brightness with the humbuckers overall. I am real picky though and others would say it did not an EQ. But this thing is what $250? Can't expect it to be a Dr Z or anything.

thanks chas. yea, the price is great and the reviews have been great. i play an sg classic (p-90s) and a les paul studio with stock humbuckers. i don't use many effects, just delay and wah normally. so i love the idea of plugging straight in a getting great tone.

another thing is that this seems to be one of the few afforable low watt tube amps that doesn't appear to need mods.

i'm bumping this as i feel like i am getting very close to pulling the trigger on it. what's not to love about this baby. anyone else with experience? i'm going to give it another whirl this week probably.

Haven't tried the AC4, but I'll have to give it a listen next time I'm in a shop that has one. I have tried the Heritage AC15 head, and love that one.

Absolutely and totally worth the money.

Vox is making some of the best amps out there right now.
