Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Music Man makes one model with a 1-11/16" nut, the John Pettruchi model.

The necks are not interchangeable, though, as the Morse has a longer neck pocket with 5-screw mount and the JP has a standard 4-screw mount.

The Poplar sounded great in mine. The problem with poplar is that it is always greenish (which is why the half-trans blue Morse looks so goofy) and it is very soft. In combination with the thin finish the Moorse picks up dings very easily. But the Poplar did manage to make the neck humbucker not sound boomy in a hardtail. That's good to boot, although as I said I didn't change pickups so maybe the hex pole pickup took care of that.

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

I kinda agree with moose
the guitar is retarded lol
I mean it is totally built for one person only
it has no contours which sucks but has a strat shape
the pickups are insanely laid out
and the poplar sucks assss

lol

sorry no ofense I just think it is hilarious why ebmm won't make a 11/16 nut and won't budge on that as an option or make their bodies a but larger but they mass produce an instrument that is from mars???

Well at least the specs are

and the worse most pittifull thing is that they do have the best fretwork and necks in the business. It drives me crazy!

I asked em why they don't have a custom shop the other day and they almost killed me!!

Lol

Did you ask them like

"hey lol like y u dont have a custem shop man dang lol liek thats totally retarrrrded" ?

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Yup. One of my friends has an early EVH & an Axis, both of which are great instruments.

Also played quite a few Silhoutes and they're pretty cool... as are the basses... Sting Rays & stuff like that. One of the best I've ever come across was a Petrucci baritone that was owned by the man himself & given as a gift to an old friend of mine... who traded it for a bunch of line 6 pedals. A rather sad story for another time... but whatever.

Anyway, I saw the Morse & had always wanted to play one... and it took about 3 minutes for me to put it back on the rack. I always wondered why I never see anyone playing them, and the reasons why were clear pretty much immediately.

It was NOTHING at all like a Telecaster.

Maybe hand geometry is similar...

Dude, its got a tune-o-matic bridge and dual cutaways...

How could it sound like a Tele???

The clearest memory I have of the thing is that it felt terrible and was a strat with too many pickups.

Maybe it was a dog... I dunno...

But how many people have you ever seen playing them? Besides Butch...

This has me seriously reconsidering this deal.

The last time I doubted you and went ahead with a plan anyway, I would up taking a 6x12 cab completely apart twice.

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Retarded... that's pretty fitting. IMO it was trying too hard to be a versatile sounding instrument at the expense of having anything truly unique to offer tonally.

Hence the hot-rodded mexi-caster comparison.

Get a mexi-strat, drop in an H/S/H setup with a bunch of mini-switches... there 'ya go.

Though I will say that it was well made piece of crap!

Like I said, for the right guy its perfect... that ain't me.

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Actually I kinda kissed asss and said I love their guitars and that's why I want them to make me my dream guitar

guess they took that as an insult. Lol

hehehehehehe

At least that didn't cost you a bad-ass SG!!!

There's probably a reason it came back to 'ya...

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

It's a pretty funny story actually
I'm gonna make a thread on the soundroom about it if you want to read about it
although some of em lurk here so I will get some slack

lol

I've probably only picked it up three or four times since it came back.

I don't like to keep guitars around that I'm not playing. Never been much into "collecting," ya know?

I really just want a nice, modern, comfortable, usa-made bolt-neck to round out what's been a stable of pretty classic old-school guitars lately.

EDIT: AND NO FLOYD!

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

You people are all nuts. Now I want mine back.

For what it's worth, I tried the new MM Reflex over the weekend, and although it's pricey, it's my favorite guitar that company has ever put out.

Depending on what you get for your guitar, you might consider a Reflex. They're new, so used isn't much of an option yet.

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

They make awesome necks really
but they are for munchkin hands as someone else mentioned

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Joe I tried one and I totally agree!!!
Nice guitar and sized right

now if they only offered it not chambered and with an all maple neck

Geez

They would absolutely KILL me if I mentioned it to them lol!!

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Sorry I got here a little late. I have one. What do you want to know?

Anyone who says it's like a Tele either has never owned a Tele or never played the Morse.

The neck is very comfortable; but is kind of small as are most EBMM necks. The Petrucci model is almost Ibanez thin. I don't care that much for the 12" radius. My Albert Lee neck was phenomenal at 10".

I like the switching. Of course, it took me a good couple of months to really get used to it. The single coils are okay. The humbuckers, I don't like. They're just not my thing. I replaced them with a DiMarzio Air Zone/Air Norton combo. I replaced the pots with 500k and the 0.047uF cap with a 0.022uF.

I play with another guitarist in church and unless he's on either bass, drums, or not there, the Morse is too much for that situation. I always use my Tele when playing with another guitarist.

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Oh yeah, the only thing that's similar between the EBMM Morse and a Tele is that there are no contours. No forearm or tummy contours. Personally, I like that.....

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

Thanks butch - I appreciate your comments. I've heard the humbuckers are are love it or hate it kind of thing. I have some custom shop sd lovebuckers that are waiting for the right guitar, but they're covered (and I won't remove the covers for sentimental reasons) so that might work if the stock ones didn't.

The lack of contours is cool with me because I love the feel of a tele. The switching is sort of intriguing to me also since many of my other axes aren't the most versatile.. but the jury is still out. I'm mostly into the idea because I have ebmm gas coming out my ears.......

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

not to be too tangential- but I wonder why alot of people feel small necks and narrow nutsare prferred by those with smaller hands or shorter fingers- even when I had no issues with CTS/RSI, I HATED small necks and narrow nuts (this sounds wrong, lol)- I have medium hands and pretty short fingers.

At any rate- Sosomething- if the morse is iffy, why not build a "super tele" or super strat to your own down to the milimeter specs? The Morse is obviously highly specialized for one man's ergonomic and extremely vast tonal needs.

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

IIRC somebody here had an original 4-pickup EBMM Morse and I'm very curious to know their detailed impressions on it, both positive and negative.

I've been offered a mint Steve Morse from the original run + cash for a guitar I have for sale and am strongly considering the deal.

Is it anything like a Tele (in tone or feel)? That would be a plus, for me...

Never owned one but played a few...

I quite like 'em!

The switching system is dumb and this is why...first there are 3 switches to get the tones it does get BUT even with 4 pickups and 3 switches it still leaves off good useable pickup combos!!!

However, it is a sig guitar and things like that are to be expected I think.

Second, no, it is NOTHING like a Tele except for at it's core it is a Fender style guitar...

Third, when you say original run, do you mean before the new 3 pickup version or do you mean from the first run, which was 50 instruments??

As for the guitar in general if I had one I'd put all new pickups all around...I'd likelt leave the switching as is but all new pickups...I hate the stock pickups, they work for Steve but they are not my bag at all...

Re: Who here had the EBMM Steve Morse model?

As an aside on the nut width...I have decided recently that I MUCH prefer the vintage Fender 1.650 over 1 11/16 and the difference is VERY small but it makes a BIG difference in terms of feel!
