I know tons of people have used them...Chuck Schuldiner, Eddie Clarke, Michael Romeo, Mille Petrozza etc. From looking at the tone structure it seems to be a balanced eq (or whatever you call it). Is this pickup any good?
It really is balanced, which is a rare thing to find in high output pickups, but maybe another way of putting it is that it's got a lot of everything...Invader fatness, plenty high end, plentiful mids. Like if you grabbed an EQ and rode everything on 10.
I bought a custom Warrior guitar and surprisingly enough, X2Ns came loaded in it. They actually sounds pretty good. They're tight in high gain settings, but also very responsive to volume changes. If you drop the volume, they clean up pretty good. I really like them coil split. It's not what you'd expect to come from a X2N. I'd dare say they are versatile pickups.
The X2N is one of my favorite pickups ever! It's got :
1) The output! It feels very powerful and drives the preamp hard!
2) The rails : no drop when bending, very even and clean sounding
3) The smooth treble : perfect for those shreddy leads
4) The tight bass : perfect for slightly muted alternate picking runs
5) Lots of cut through : when you need to be heard
Definitely one of the best pickups ever. Having that said, I think I need to buy another one of those!
