Who Here Uses an APH-1 (B)

So who hear has an APH-1 Alnico II Pro bridge humbucker equipped in one or more of your guitars? If so, what guitar? What's your main amp used? What style is played? How do you like the A2P's? Thoughts?

I used to have a set in an LP copy and in a super strat hardtail. Playing through a jcm 2000.

I thought is was warm but had a high end cut at the same time Single notes had a singing quality. A spongy quality. Output was low for me. Been a while but sold guitar so pups went too.

Have a set in a LP, I like them lot. Better than PG's, neck and bridge have more bite.

One of my favorite guitarists, Keri Kelli, used a set in his Les Paul when he was with Alice Cooper. Great medium and higher gain rock tones.

I prefer them to PG's as well. More body to the tone even though the output is lower.

Edit: I may have to take this back or at least say I am liking the PG as much these days. Not to take way from the awesomeness of the APH1B's.

I have the bridge model in my Epi Black Beauty. It's a keeper. One of my favourite pickups, it's like the tone on the Darkness debut album. Fat as hell, heavy, but with plenty string separation as well.
I really don't dig the neck pickup much though, took it out of the 3 guitars I tried it in. 59, Seth, or a DiMarzio PAF for me there.

Yes they are very full. The coil windings are almost the same as the Seth Lover (per SD tech support). Throaty with a nice "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" high end coming through. I have them in a LP neck and bridge through a JCM800 or THD UNivalve. I also tried them and liked them in PRS MCcarty. They went to the LP because it is my number one guitar.

I have one in the bridge of an Epi LP100. I mainly play blooze-rawk on it, through a TSL100 or a Mesa Rocket 44 -- just about always V30's either way.

Loves it. I got it for the Gerns N' Ruzas, and that it does.

I have three Alnico II Pro humbuckers; two are neck, one is bridge.

I used to have a neck and bridge pair in my BC Rich USA NT Warlock (maple neck, alder body, rosewood board). I wanted more output in the bridge and a bit more crunch and throatiness, so switched that for a Duncan Distortion. I am pretty happy with the Alnico II Pro in the neck for warmer medium gain tones or backed off on volume for cleans. I do wonder if the Alnico II Slash would be punchier for lead work on the neck position in that particular guitar though. Note that is a 24 fret, 24.75" scale.

My other Alnico II Pro is in the neck of a Washburn Dime 333. The Alnico II LOVES that big chunk of mohogany. I think it sounds even better due to sitting in mohogany instead of maple and being further toward the neck (22 fret, 24.75" scale). It is warm, thick, punchy, but still articulate. I cannot imagine a pickup sounding better in the neck of that guitar.

I usually use a Mesa/Boogie Triaxis with 2:Ninety and Celestion G12H-80 and Vintage 30 speakers. At times I'll use the Washburn through an old Crate GX212+ combo amp that also has Celestion G12H-80 speakers.

I have one in an Epiphone Les Paul. I like the neck pickup as well. I have one in the same guitar as the bridge model, and I have one paired with a Dimebucker. The Alnico II Pro bridge model sounds great in my Epiphone. It can play all kinds of different styles of music. It's very warm, yet it's also tight. I play it through all of my amps. It's played with alot of gain most of the time.

I recorded this with my Alnico II Pro loaded Epiphone Les Paul. This entire song is the bridge pickup.

Damn, that sounded good.

On the neck A2P I raised the pole pieces and lowered the right side of the PU, and that gave me s little brighter and thinner tone, which is often needed in neck HB's in LP's. That trick didn't give me what I wanted with my PGN, and a mag swap was required.

Nah I don't like bright and thin in the neck, I like it fat and creamy! :)

Sounds great.

In a way it's a shame that most people think of Slash when they think of this pickup as it can do a lot more in the bridge than one might think. As a matter of fact it is one of favorite SD pickups but I sometimes hear a Slash guitar tone that is so terrible that I am left hoping that my guitar/rig doesn't sound that bad :)

And mind you, I like him, but an A2P set is capable of sooooo much more than Sweet Child.
