Re: Who Here Uses an APH-1 (B)
I have three Alnico II Pro humbuckers; two are neck, one is bridge.
I used to have a neck and bridge pair in my BC Rich USA NT Warlock (maple neck, alder body, rosewood board). I wanted more output in the bridge and a bit more crunch and throatiness, so switched that for a Duncan Distortion. I am pretty happy with the Alnico II Pro in the neck for warmer medium gain tones or backed off on volume for cleans. I do wonder if the Alnico II Slash would be punchier for lead work on the neck position in that particular guitar though. Note that is a 24 fret, 24.75" scale.
My other Alnico II Pro is in the neck of a Washburn Dime 333. The Alnico II LOVES that big chunk of mohogany. I think it sounds even better due to sitting in mohogany instead of maple and being further toward the neck (22 fret, 24.75" scale). It is warm, thick, punchy, but still articulate. I cannot imagine a pickup sounding better in the neck of that guitar.
I usually use a Mesa/Boogie Triaxis with 2:Ninety and Celestion G12H-80 and Vintage 30 speakers. At times I'll use the Washburn through an old Crate GX212+ combo amp that also has Celestion G12H-80 speakers.
