Who is Bugera?

Hello,
Who is Bugera amps? Are they are German company? I can't seem to find anything about where they are from.

Re: Who is Bugera?

Music Group is the parent company. MG also owns Behringer. I think it's a German company but the stuff is Chinese made. Bugera has some good sounding stuff. Of course, that's opinion based but there is quite a bit of praise for some of their amps ... their 1960 is one example. That's not really the issue. The issue is the overall quality. They aren't using top shelf components or double thick circuit boards. They do offer a 3 year warranty though. Many of their amps are copies or close takes on famous amps. For example, I think their 1960 is a "copy" of one of the Plexis. The 6160 is their take on an early 5150. The Tri-rec is based on the Mesa dual rec., but it's not a copy.

Re: Who is Bugera?

Thats what I thought. I thought they where a German based company. If you consider their prices, I gotta assume you get what you pay for here. Your not spending a ton of cash on their amps.
My Friends son is looking at amps and he likes one of the Bugera amps he's plugged into. He's looking at the Smaller Orange amps and Black Star Club series stuff for his next amp. He has been playing now a few years and is getting good.
I'm not sure if the Bugera is a good choice or not. I'd have to see him spend money on an amp that is going to have issues. I'd rather see him go Orange or Black star honestly. Especially the Club 40 which IMO is a very nice affordable versatile amp.

Re: Who is Bugera?

Yeah, a German company making their stuff in China. I'd pick a Blackstar over any Bugera, personally.

Re: Who is Bugera?

I got a Bugera V55 it's a 12" combo 55 watt tube amp for $450. It's ridiculously good. I haven't had any issues with it. It seriously sounds as good as a Delux reverb. The only difference is the highs aren't as perfect ice pick as the Fender. That's about it. For half the price.

Re: Who is Bugera?

I know they had issues early on with the input jacks breaking loose from the board, but I've also heard they got that fixed in the last couple of years, mostly. Then again I assume it's also in how often you plug in and out, the weight of the cable you're using, and overall care for your gear (lots of hopping around with a short cable, stressing the jack, etc).
As well, some folks said once they replaced a few crappy knobs/pots with better ones, they had a road-worthy amp, at least for local gigs.

I've heard nothing but good reviews for their tone. Not just "for the price" but in general. Most reviews I've seen from actual players is that they are faithful to the amps they're copying. Made In China doesn't always mean Made Poorly, though as was stated, component quality is a factor in that. Marshall can put together crappy components for their UK-made models just as well as they can use good components, but at some point the component quality will outweigh the skill with which they were assembled. The quality of automated assembly of mass-produced boards is directly related to the precision of either process and machine.

Re: Who is Bugera?

Life has been especially arduous for Behringer since I first bought their preamp in 2005. Apple, Nike, Boss, Nikon, TC Electronics etc. etc. have outsourced manufacturing to Chine for years, but nobody complained...lol. But for Behringer it's suddenly a big deal.

Since you haven't heard bad reviews, let me give you one. The V22 was the worst sounding amp I ever owned and MANY others have echoed similar thoughts, You just haven't searched enough for reviews. People seem to either love 'em or hate 'em. I'm of the latter persuasion. I don't attribute it to country of origin, however.

I've heard some great demos of the V22 on YouTube, but I could never achieve that sound with the first one or the second (a warranty replacement due to defect). I tried everything including new/different tubes, speakers, and every combination of settings imaginable. No success.....sold it after a frustrating year of attempts.

I stay clear of everything 'Bugera'. Funny thing is I don't have the same view of their ss counterpart, Behringer, although I no longer own a Behringer amp. Still have a couple of their pedals I use occasionally. And I've played in bands using their PA mixers and amps and found them to be quite decent and reliable.

And I really like the V22 (I have the head version). The clean channel is great and takes pedals well. The drive channel is a bit fizzy. Tubes help, but don't fix it. But it's mostly at lower volume. At higher output, the drive channel is much better. Different strokes for different folks.

Re: Who is Bugera?

I'm actually hoping he really digs the Blackstar club 40. I personally think it's a way better all around amp.

A bit fizzy is an understatement to my ears...it was extremely fizzy. I wouldn't own an amp that had one good channel and one bad one.

Re: Who is Bugera?

Happiness is NOT owning a Bugera!!!

:scratchch STRONGLY disagree..

Could'nt be happier with my 333XL Infinium. 3 years running w/o a moment's trouble.. :bigthumb:

Re: Who is Bugera?

Blackstar club series 40 or 50- check em out on you tube almost bought one from GC for $300... might still be there...
did some research...good amps

Re: Who is Bugera?

I used to stick up for Behringer, particularly the V-Amp2. Now, a few years later, it's one of the only pieces of gear I've ever had fall apart. The only other one was a Zoom 505, and that got stepped on all the time.

Re: Who is Bugera?

I had a Club 40 one year ago,I did like it but it somehow blew one of the EL-34's out of the socket! I had it 6 days at home..I didn't open it up due to warranty or return for refund but it did sound excellent, and it did great with pedals and the extra speaker outlet let me plug it into my 2-12" cab..sounded great..probably get one if I see one priced around what you said above.

Re: Who is Bugera?

Big closeout sale on the Blackstar HT20 if 20 watts is sufficient. I have one of these and it's a very good amp. Beats the Bugera V22 hands down....no contest!
