Who knows phase?

Re: Who knows phase?

If your pickups have ended up out of phase, it will be necessary to reverse the black and green conductors on the SM-3n.

If the mini humbucker sounds odd by itself or fails to reject hum, there could be a problem inside the pickup.

Re: Who knows phase?

Both pickups sound great individually but the middle position is "odd."
At first, I thought the pickups just didn't play well together. It doesn't sound like, say, two PAFs out of phase. Thin and weak.
It's still a relatively full sound, though volume is maybe 5-10% down and it just sounds dull and lifeless.
I've never heard two dissimilar pickups out of phase before so I'm not quite sure what I'm hearing. Whatever it is ain't right, though.

Re: Who knows phase?

Pretty sure that's phase between the pickups - follow Funkfingers advice and switch green and black on one pickup only.

Re: Who knows phase?

Definitely not phase. When I swapped the leads, it was obviously out of phase.
I think I just need to put a single coil back in the neck position.

Re: Who knows phase?

Any way you can get sound clips for us to listen to?

Re: Who knows phase?

Does the SM-3 sound good on its own? Is it hum-cancelling? Are both coils working?

Description reminds me of a volume wired without a ground connection.

Re: Who knows phase?

It could be, but I would certainly go over every connection before I gave up on this pair.

Re: Who knows phase?

I use a firebird pup in the neck of my tele and I like the combined tones quite a bit. could be those two pups don't blend in a way that pleases you but id mess around with heights and check the wiring before I gave up on that pair
