Here is a pic of mine in action from a couple weeks ago. Never went out of tune in hellish 45 degree weather... MINNESOTA WHY!!!!!!!!! It snowed right when the show ended... 200.00 with case for a neck I absolutely love is about as good as deals get. I was going to get a Dean but this just felt much better. I have held many a crap Epi. but like Squiers there are always good ones, I just happened to be in the right place at the.....

Awesome. Do you have any balance issues with the V?

Re: Who says Epiphones are junk?

Actually no, it sits much better than the Explorer did. That thing just dug into my body, the V is very light and suprised me with how easy it was to adjust to it. I expected more issues with it.

Kevlar,
Is that a mass unit I think I see in the pic along with a sennheiser e609 mic? Good taste. What amp is that though, I can't quite tell?

Re: Who says Epiphones are junk?

Yeah it is a Mass through my 71 Traynor Bassmaster and a 65 Hilgen cab. It is a great sounding amp, one of the best I have ever heard actually. That Mass has been great for me, that gig sounded awesome despite the frigid hell I live in.

Re: Who says Epiphones are junk?

I own a Epi Les Paul Standard that i bought 3 years ago and i am quite pleased with it. I will say it was the sixth i tried before buying. I did play a couple that i didnt like at all,but the one i did buy is great. Stays in tune has a very good tone. The only problem ive had is the switch died on me about 3 months ago.

Basically i feel that there is some good ones, but there is also some bad ones that you need to watch out for. This is true for Gibsons,Fenders and everything else. In my case the neck is fatter than anyone i played, has a slightly hotter, clearer output and weighs about 4 pounds more than any other i have played.

my 2 cents.......

My Epi Exployer has a much nicer neck then the Epi LP i also have...... The Exployer is thicker and feels nice.... My Epi LP has an extremely thin neck! Almost as thin as some Ibanez necks which is odd as some other Epi lps i have tried are not like this one! But the Exployer feels good! You got a good deal for $200 for that V! I'd buy one if i saw it for that cheap of a price.

Does anyone know for sure if it is Alder they are using for Epi LP Necks? Some are saying it is alder and not maple around these parts.

I don't trust Epiphone's wood.
+1 The Epi ad people and manufactor's got to get on the same page.
If you go to Epi's web page they claim the Goth Flying V is all mahogany
with a ebony fret board. Hmmmm. sounds like a good guitar? I guess they
don't plan on people sanding them down? Well, The one I got has a Maple
neck, Rosewood fretboard and the jury is still out on the body? It's
Mahogany Like, But like no Mahogany I've ever saw? Looks very much
like Limba? With a new bone nut,Block inlays and a pair of Duncans It's
not a bad guitar. I still gotta level the frets and refinish it one day.

Re: Who says Epiphones are junk?

If you get an older one, the wood is more reliable, mine is definately mahogany/maple.
