Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Maple filler strip installed, frets cut, and routing done for Gibson MOP inlay.

Just waiting on the binding I want to use to show up from Stew Mac, and of interesting note, the veneer on the headstock is not Holly, but some sort of plastic.

The heat killed one of my micro bits... :(

So much awesome mine eyes can hardly handle these images

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Put a volute in while you are at it! Wish every Gibson had one. It's the biggest stubborn-assed design flaw that they do not build them with volutes.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

i was cheering for you until you decided to put a gibson logo on it.

I am starting to think you are trolling --- first praising Ed Roman, and now this

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Awesome thread!

I would do a Confederate Flag painting on it and maybe a "01" - General Lee ;)

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Guys,

I do believe in volutes in general, but I was planting my tongue firmly into my cheek here! C'mon! How do you add a volute anyhow?

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Actually, adding a volute would be failrly simple. I have no desire to do so, but it has been done on many a neck repair.

Check out how Roman Rist did this repair.

Fretboard done, test fitted. Orvilles (or any Japanese Gibsons) did not have the binding nibs, so I went ahead and created those.

Why the need for the Gibson logo, Ayrton? (serious question, not trying to provoke an argument)

Well, since no one has bothered to reply to you, I'll say this:

I don't think Ayrton is planning on selling the guitar, and if down the line he does, I doubt he'll try to pass it off as a real Gibson. What can I use to back that? Just forum rep.

There's still many things that will break it if that guitar was sold as a Gibson. First, the finish is supposed to be a non-standard LPC finish. That raises red flags. Second, serial number. Third, CS case. Fourth, the original black paint is still inside the pickup and electronics cavities. Fifth and much harder to verify, metric measurement hardware.

Five out of five things that can be verified if bought in person. Four out of five things that can be verified with detailed pictures if bought online. Three out of five things that can be verified with regular pictures if bought online. (Past this point, if you're plunking down what a LPC costs with less evidence than that then you're just not being a smart buyer). Two out of five things that can be verified with just one picture and a message if bought online.

One thing that breaks the sale that can be verified with a simple e-mail to Gibson or a Google search if bought online.

Because I already had it lying around...

I am not bothered by people who have a problem with me (or anyone) doing whatever they want to their guitars.

Fender logos on Warmoth necks, to Slash using a LP copy. All the same to me and I could not care less.

I only document this build for the enjoyment of those that care to watch.

Besides, it would real hard to pass it off as a USA Gibson with the K serial number I stamped in the headstock.

Cool beans- I was just wondering. Thanks for the FYI.
