Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

You and me both! I am waiting on the hardware to come in, so I have been working on other guitars.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Whiles we wait for hardware to show up, a friend asked me to help him finish up a tele body he wanted made from a chunk of Walnut. I tried talking him into a Walnut top vs a solid body, but it is his project.

The outer shape he had already cut, and I did the final routing after pulling some templates off one of my raw Fender bodies.

He had planed to use a standard control plate, but decided against it. So I used it as a cavity cover for the back. :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an all walnut-body be quite heavy and bright?

Heavy, very heavy....

The bright part is debatable, as one mans bright is another mans cut.

Like I wrote, it is what he wanted, I just routed it for him.

I can't wait to see how this turns out. There's sure a lot of project guitars going on this year on this board. I think we need a SDUGF 2011 Guitar Builds thread, including serious refurbs like this. Just a refinish I don't think counts but heavy refurbishing like this do.

Hell yeah, Crusty, Erik, Ayrton, trevorus, lots of cool builds this year! I just got a $100 pile of parts that fit in the palm of my hand from Stew-Mac yesterday, tryna finish my project up this month!

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

nice project! I'm not sure what I should call it; restoration? rework?

ps: are you gonna keep it without inlay?

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

This is the worst attempt at wrecking a guitar i have ever seen.

+1. Complete failure to lose any small parts down the cold air return, slip with the routing bit, or glue himself to anything.

Yes... inlays would have to have been installed before frets (to look good at least).

There is still plenty of time for me to screw up something.

I have spent the last couple of days working something very cool, and hopefully it comes out correct.

The LPC is on hold until the Tone Pros stuff comes in.

You're a rock tease.

Sorry, that's the best I could come up with.
