Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

The Orville has a two-part heel? I'm disgusted.

Yeah, kinda surprised me as well. I wonder if all of them are like that...

The awesomeness of the final product will out weigh that though. :D

I was able to get a pretty good sound out of it after I swapped out the pups.

Mick Ronson would be proud. I must admit that I was horrified at first, but she's beautiful.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

If I were you, I'd slap a Gibson logo on it and sell it to Jerry.....................

From what I've read, they aren't all that way. There's Orville and then there's Orville by Gibson. I don't remember which of the two was supposedly the better one but I DO remember one or the other were made in the Terada factory.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Well, there you go. I knew it was something like that. I like my Fuji-Gen geets. I don't have any experience with Terada.

I will say this bro, you've got balls, huge balls to take a razor to that guitar. I would never have it in me to do it... and great job too. Can't wait to see it done...

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

I finished up the paint removal this week, and tonight I pulled the board.

I don't know what sort of alien technology glue the Japanese are using, but it sure as hell is not yellow glue.

No ****, it took me over 3 hours and plenty of heat to nearly destroy this thing.

I needed to save the original board intact so I can use it as a template.

The "filler" strip is not really much of a strip, and I will have to replace it. Giving how crappy this one looks, I can only imagine it will be an improvement.

No vintage rod here!

Dude you are hardcore. As a huge fan of japanese maufacture, even I question at which point you just call it quits and buy your way into the next quality level.

You dont quit.

Much respect. Seriously.

Continue.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

This thread is the tits. I wanna do that to a guitar but I'm too scared. You are my hero for the moment :headbang:

BUMP for coolness!:werd:

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Holy crap! It's like my project, only with ambition, knowledge, and skills!

Huh huh huh huh… this is gonna be cool.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

 Definatly going to watch this through to the end. Good luck.

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Good luck, man! I'm psyched to see the end result too!

Re: Who wants to watch me totally wreck a Les Paul Custom?

Tonight I cleaned up the neck and milled a new filler strip. The old one was epoxied to the rod, and from what little I know about Martin style rods, that is a no no. I am still trying to determine the best way to attach the filler...

So while I figure that out, I went ahead and cut the new ebony board. I just used the old board as a template and routed it out.
