Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

im here because i dont really think there is a " best " pickup company, and seeing as how dimarzio ( yes i use quite a few of their pickups ) doesnt have a forum, i post here most of the time... i dont think there is any reason to limit your tone by limiting the company you use, sometimes dimarzio does it for me, sometimes not. ive got all kinds of pickups that i swap out in my guitar depending on the tone im looking for.. ( i wired up some quick-disconnect cables to all of my pickups ) i heard a lot of people talking about seymour duncan before i came here ( i used all dimarzio ) but since ive been here i've aquired quite a few pickups from these guys and like 2 sets of Bare Knuckle pickups..this forum is a great place and a goldmine for info~ plus everyone is pretty nice. its sad DiMarzio doesnt have a forum :(

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

well the i kinda consider this a general brand pickup forum, with an emphasis to duncan pickups.i for once learned a lot about dimarzios here.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

My first Duncan purchase was a white SH-12 for my HSS Aria strat copy. At the time I both needed a pickup upgrade and was listening to Lynch non-stop, so the pickup named for him only made sense. A Seymour Duncan user was born, and since I have not purchased another pickup from any other manufacturer (I already owned my EMGs).

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

When I got my first Strat I loved the guitar not the pickups.Put in a lil demon and loved it.It stayed there for 6yrs until 3 days ago when a Twang banger came knockin. But since the first one, all my pups have been SD's. I havent even bought another unless it came in a guitar.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I was into Iron Maiden really heavily at the time (I still am), and the bridge pup just wasn't happening. The neck was okay, but I figured it needed replacing too. The bridge pup was really weak, and a little harsh on the top end, and it just sounded like it was coming out of a crappy radio. I asked around, did lots of research, and then it was either the SH-6, or the SH-8 for the bridge. I figured that with any excess bass response I could always dial out as much as I could, so I went with the Invader.

Fast forward to the day I get it back from the shop, and my mouth dropped in astonishment as I plugged her in and player 'The Prisoner'. It sounded amazing! Okay, so it was a little muddy, so I turned down the gain and dialed out some bass.

So after that I purchased the Jazz neck model (there was no other pups that were interesting to me), I've been sold on SD. I've found the sound that my V was missing, and now I'm finished modding that guitar, except for little aesthetics, like a gold mounting for the bridge pickup to contrast the black one in the neck.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Just an overall upgrade to my strat. I heard my friends Dmz equipped strat. Pretty cool. I believe SD could do the same. For alot less $$. And I am right.

Duckbucker - neck
SSL-3 Hot - bridge

Any suggestions for a middle pup to get good in betwen sounds?

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

i wanted to upgrade the p'ups in my MIM strat, i cuold choose between Sd's and dimarzios. Seymour Duncan sounded so much more repectable, lol. and the descriptions of the sounds sounded like what i wanted, and the website had sound clips for almost all the pickups. i definitely liked the way the sd's sounded, and plan to get more.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

apart from having experience with SD because of my stock SD equipped Framus Renegade I decided for SD because of the sound samples and this forum. both helped a lot to never make a bad investment

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

after playing my friend's JB/59 equipped Les Paul over my then-EMG loaded LP in one of my gigs. after that, i never looked back.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I couldn't afford the EMG-T set for my telecaster so I got a SD 1/4.

Im happy, but it doesn't do cleans as good as the EMG's could have, while maintaining a tone I like.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Three reasons.

1: Slash and Dimebag used 'em (back when I got my first SD's, I had been obsessed with GNR and Pantera for ages)
2: Lotsa people praised them on my old guitar forums
3: I tried a pair of duncan designed (that's right) single coils in a strat, and they made me go :11:

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Back in my early playing days, a friend of mine in high school was a Duncan user and he had a SH-6 that he wasn't using so he sold it to me. I didn't know a lot about them then but after he played my guitar, he told me he had a better pickup than what I was using (can't remember what it was). After wiring it up, I was hooked. It was wonderful. I was able to get some great Lynch tones out of it. I don't know what happened to it though. I think I ended up selling it to someone. That was a long time ago though.
