Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?
I was looking for a bigger neck sound, in my strat, but I wanted it to still sound fendery. I saw an article in GP, where they said, Brent Mason used a gibson mini humbucker in the neck of his tele. I went and listened to some of his work with various artists. I really liked his neck tones, so I went looking for a pickup like his. The shop where I got all my guitar work done at the time (Lone Star Guitars, Houston, TX), only carried SD, so I had him put an SM-1 in with a Mega-Switch, for tele middle position sounds. At first I didn't really like the tone a whole lot, but it grew on me, until it became a guitar/pickup combo that I'll never get rid of. Then, many years later, when I was looking to upgrade another guitar, I found the SD forum. I believe that the SD website is by far the most informative, and I feel a little lost when looking at other pickup company's products, because I'm so used to the huge amount of info available on the SD site.
