Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I wanted my Rg to sound badass. :)

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

i knew my Ibanez needed a new bridge pup. I wanted a better sound that those crappy a$$ powersounds. I ordered a JB because that's what Stephen Carpenter from the Deftones uses and i thought it was a logical place to start considering that's all i was playing at the time. I popped it in and couldn't believe how good it sounded. I actually like my tone with the JB better than Mr. Carpenter's tone with the JB. it is still my number one Pickup.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I had an ESP Horizon, and just wanted it too sound different. Tried out EMG's and DiMarzio's but I did'nt find what I was looking for before I tried Duncan.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I were just researching pickups, guitars and stuff back in 2002, and found the forum on this site. Then i bugged everyone off with newbie questions about the Invader, lol!

After a while i became addicted to this forum and the nice people around here ;)

So, thats my story!

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I had been a dimarzio fan for a while, had a few of their pickups in my guitars. I really didnt know what sound I was goin for at the time, so I was experementing around with a whole bunch of different gear, tryin to figure out what I wanted. Eventually, I got everything I needed (krank head, mesa cab, few effects, guitars loaded up). But, there was still somthing missing.

On a whim, I decided to replace the bridge pickup in my les paul with a custom. 7 SD pickups (so far) later, And I havent looked back.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Way back some 20 years ago me and an old buddy of mine, borrowed his big brothers strat with a pair of APS-1's and a JB humbucker....we stuck into his Park50 top....awesome!
:D

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I wanted to have real pickups on my Epi LP so I took a look on the net to see what was available. The descriptions and clips on various site weren't really giving me any clue about what I wanted. So I entered the SD forum and started posting threads. Man, I've been learning a lot of stuff about guitars since. :beerchug:

Furthermore, I find that reading all your guitar stories is emulating. I wanna know even more now and try loads of different gear.

So here it is, in less than a month, I'll put my hands on my first SD pickups equipped guitar and I am really looking forward to it. :32:

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I bought a Duncan Designed Scorchers for a guitar I was building, and later upgraded to Seymour Duncans.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Many, many moons ago Just before I got my Jackson I saw a pick-up shootout in Guitar Player mag. The reviewers all flipped out when they put the JB in the bridge position of a Jackson soloist....well that did it for me. A couple weeks after I picked up my New guitar I brought it back to the same store and had them install a JB.. I still remember the guy behind the counter nodding to me with a slight grin and saying "good choice" . ....and it was.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I bought a used tele with a lil 59 in the bridge.....I was impressed with the tone...being curious about SD pups i went to SD website, saw the APS-2 , got in fixed it into my strat and the now its pretty much SD pups all the way .

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

All the guitarists that I hated were using Dimarzios and all the guitarists I liked were using Duncans, so here I am.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

When I first got my SG, the pots were going, but the uninformed salesperson said it might be the pickups so he started feeding me suggestions (Duncan Jazz/JB set). Several months later when I decided to upgrade (after joining the forum) I chose Duncan.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Other

Bill Lawrence wasn't in production for a while, DiMarzios sound like ass and my tech said here put this in your LP, it all started simply enough with an A2P in an LP ;)

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I have tried and like pups from a number of makers. But my first upgrade was a Hotrails into my Tele. Night and Day. I went that way after hearing my teacher's Strat with a Hotrails. Actually, if the box he gave me with the original single from that strat is correct, it wasn'ty a hotrails he had, but a JB Jr. Rails Neck model. Can anyone confirm the existance of that one? I remember seeing a picture of his Kramer with this pup in the neck position, and I recall my Tele had more power... hmmmm...

I'll have a look for the box when I get home... I never throw anything away... and I got it 12 years ago!

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Heard Slash play in 6th grade and immediately wanted to know how he was getting that tone. I played a Les Paul in Guitar Center and didn't quite sound like him, so I asked and they said the Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II humbuckers.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

Step 1 - Purchased used Fernandes strat with Duncans installed by previous owner. Liked both the guitar and the pickups.

Step 2 - Read Guitar Player's "52 Pickup" comparison test about ten years ago. Excellent marks given to Duncans, especially Antiquity Humbuckers.

Step 3 - DiM*#@*+ pickup in my SG dies.

Step 4 - Put Antiquity Humbuckers in SG and my fate was sealed.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I was looking for a bigger neck sound, in my strat, but I wanted it to still sound fendery. I saw an article in GP, where they said, Brent Mason used a gibson mini humbucker in the neck of his tele. I went and listened to some of his work with various artists. I really liked his neck tones, so I went looking for a pickup like his. The shop where I got all my guitar work done at the time (Lone Star Guitars, Houston, TX), only carried SD, so I had him put an SM-1 in with a Mega-Switch, for tele middle position sounds. At first I didn't really like the tone a whole lot, but it grew on me, until it became a guitar/pickup combo that I'll never get rid of. Then, many years later, when I was looking to upgrade another guitar, I found the SD forum. I believe that the SD website is by far the most informative, and I feel a little lost when looking at other pickup company's products, because I'm so used to the huge amount of info available on the SD site.

Re: Why did you get into SD pickups?

I was just getting in to electric guitars a few years ago and starting checking out different pickups. I started realy looking into the Dimarzio's tried a few and was not happy. I then found out about the " double cream deal" and a friend told me about SD. That did it for me. I love the sounds and the fact that they don't come from a company that will cry about the pigment of a pickup color.
