Why do I want a ESP HETFIELD TRUCKSTER so bad??

Re: Why do I want a ESP HETFIELD TRUCKSTER so bad??

I despise that guitar... the finish and the relicing, if you can call it that, just make me sick. Take away that, and the dummy switch, leaving just a regular ESP Eclipse or LTD-400 and I'm sold.

I agree with whoever said the guitar looks worse in real life. It didnt even sound that great! The neck was decent and the body wasnt overly heavy. I much rather get a schecter over the truckster.

I dunno, I respect James Hetfield VERY highly. IMHO he's one of the best in terms of raw talent for a rhythm player AND a vocalist. Most his rhythm felt like lead to me when I was learning, and some of it is downright complex to sing while playing, to be honest. Would take a ton of practice to get both vocals and rhythm guitar memorized to the point where they both go on "autopilot."
Anyways, back to the guitar, I've never been a "OMG! I MUST HAVE ACTIVE EMG!!!" movement. I mean, pickups are pickups, and I respect those, but to me they sound way too clinical. The recent Dave Mustain (sp?) active set to me was like "OMG LET ME PUT BATTERIES ON MY FAV PUPS!" I respect DM also, but still.... I played an Epiphone Zack Wilde sig guitar with the passives (EMG H4? Z4?) and it sounded just as good to me, but still clinical. But hey, to each his own. But me, if I got my pick, I'd rather pay for the most expensive LP-ish ESP with SD passive pickups rather than be given a free Truckster. I'd just sell it and buy what I really want. I respect ESP, EMG, DM and JH, but still....

In my opinion, Metallica the band are a very good outfit in terms of talent. Hetfield is one of the greatest frontmen ever. People can question this and that about them, but they have been selling records for years now, they have earned their place.

As for the guitar, it looks horrible, but I think they play and sound pretty good. I personally would rather spec out an Epiphone for that money. Plus, I have never been a fan of EMGs.

The more I look at that axe the more I start to dig the idea of a gray primered axe. I, however, would let it naturally wear, and I wouldn't have two layers of paint under the gray primer. Mahogany, grain filler, gray primer. That might be cool. Of course it will look cheap... anything in flat primer looks unfinished and cheap.

In that respect, Hetfield doesn't hold a candle to Mustaine. Some of the guitar lines Mustaine plays while he sings are so crazy that I wouldn't believe he could do bith at the same time unless I had seen it.

I agree with you, but I think Hetfield has a much better voice than Mustaine, and also is a better songwriter IMO, but I guess it's all subjective anyway.

I'll agree with you on the former... ;)

This does not, however, change the fact that the truckster would make great firewood.

Well I've never actually listened to any Megadeth. I've heard that before, but I think I was introduced to their music and said I didn't like it because of his singing voice. However, I do respect DM as well. Why does a conversation about JH always lead to someone bringing up DM? :D (I know the history as to why...)

Re: Why do I want a ESP HETFIELD TRUCKSTER so bad??

The Truckster looks like a$$. Someone I know bought a Truckster and I'm willing to bet that he did only on the basis that James Hetfield plays one. They're ****ing expensive here in Oz and he could of saved a lot of money by not getting an ESP that's not a signature. Hell he could of saved a lot money by not buying ESP altogether.
