Was sitting around the house today and working with my gear so threw this together. Jam track through my music room system playing the Purple Carvin DC 127 through my Archon head and the Blackstar 1/12 Loaded with a WGS Retro 30. Recorded this with a little tiny Sony Sx 700 and the internal mics. Running nothing but a little verb in the loop no other effects. In over 45 years of playing guitar have never played another amp that respods to touch and just sings like this Archon and this is at a super low volume. This amp REALLY shines when you can crank it a little as it just comes alive with a little volume. Running just the 3 way switch and using the volume knob and touch to get dynamics. these amps take my breath away every time i play through them and it's a shame they dont get more love on line.

Great amps IMO. Wonderful values and can't touch them for versatility and price point on the used market especially.

Box has ether changed the way the link shows up or this new system make it all show up differently here now. Click the upper link that says box not the lower and it should open and play directly without asking for your email. Don't know for sure if it's Box or the new system here but something changed. This system now suddenly makes me run it through the section at the bottom that says upload link and will not let me just post the direct link. That is not happening this way on other forums so?

Absolutely agree. Many have never played through these amps but after owning my 2 for a while I now have a hard time playing my Boogies anymore. They just frustrate me because they flat won't respond to touch like these PRS amps will. With the Archon in particular this amp just comes to life when you crank it a little and really sings. This clip was at a very low volume in my music room but you can still hear some of it as it sings and blooms on the notes even at low volumes.. Turn it up some and it cleans up gets more expressive and open just breathtaking amps! The Archon feels and sounds similar to a real Ken Fisher Train Wreck Express in the way it compress and bloom on the notes.

I think a lot of people discount them because a guitar company makes them and a lot of people discount their guitars as foo foo stuff. Bottom line, I think they (PRS) don't get the credit they deserve. I lean towards the heavy tones predominately and was absolutely baffled when the Archon was introduced. All the amps prior were cleaner and never reached past light gain or mid gain much. Just not the core of my thing. When the Archon came out I heard those cleans and was like nice, here is another amp from them with wonderful cleans and some rock tones. I never expected that amp to be able to get so heavy and sound so good on top of it. The cleans are exceptional. The High Gain is exceptional. The mid and low gain, exceptional. It is simply fantastic.

Bring in the Tremonti amp and that thing is again, exceptional. That amp was such a surprise to me for capable sounds, volume, size, price. Simply amazing in my opinion. I look forward to the 100 watt Tremonti amp coming out soon. From a performance perspective, if the Archon had 3 channels (each for clean, mid gain, metal) tones I could see it being the perfect amp. I have a 50 watt that I found dead mint used and it cost me just over $800 bucks. Every time I look at that amp I still can't believe what I got for my money. I am going to get the 100 watt when I can find one. Absolutely incredible!

i think prs makes great amps, they just arent voiced the way i want my amps to sound. even the older lower gain styles didnt really do it for me, although they sounded very good.

Get that 100% on the voicing. For me it's giving me the smooth sweet modern tones I have in my head plus most of the expressiveness and feel I get from a Marshall so I love them. For you they may not work. What I'm trying to do is simply get folk to take a look and try them. I like the amps MUCH better than PRS guitars and head to head would prefer my Carvin Kiesel guitars to PRS even if they were at the same price point. That the Kiesels are MUCH less $ and offer more of the options I care about is just gravy. Was happy with my Boogies until I got the MT 15 and suddenly found the Boogies lacking in tone and feel. Spent years playing Marshalls still love those tones and the feel but also like the smoother fatter American high gain tones but find most Boogies to be frustratingly stiff and unresponsive to touch and technique. That's what I love about in particular about the Archon that modern smooth sweet high gain voice like a good Boogie but with the expressiveness and sensitivity to touch of a Marshall. To me it's the best of BOTH WORLDS!

as I looked they have several versions of this amp

100 watt head
50 watt head
50 watt combo
20 watt combo

Own both a Archon 50 head and a MT 15. Yes they are similar in the way that say a PRS USA Core Custom 24 and a PRS SE Custom 24 are similar.
The MT 15 is a really well built little inexpensive Chinese import head while the Archon is a high end USA handbult amp. The are voiced similarly with the MT 15 being more compressed and aggressive on the gain side where the Archon is much more open and refined in it's tones. Where you really see the difference though is when you crank both a little. Crank the Archon and it gets more open and expressive and really comes to life. The MT 15 on the other hand when you crank it gets more compressed and sounds congested. Not talking ear bleed levels here ether and the difference when you play them is very noticeable. Love both will keep both but the Archon is the real monster. In the league with the Soldanos, Bogners, Mesabarbra ect . Both are wicked wicked amps!!
