Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

i'm also in the camp that the 75's aren't as bad as they're made out to be. in fact, i like them, and the tone i get out of my setup with those speakers is the most pleasing i've gotten thus far (more power to me i guess???)

jacob, if they're not working for you then what's stopping you from pulling them and selling them for some other speakers? you could replace them with V30's or G12H30's or basically anything else, and could kill that second bird because you could also solve that impedence issue, and can result in a pretty killer sounding setup.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Jacob, have you opened up your H&K cab and made yourself 100% sure that your Rockdrivers are Celestions?

I have a H&K ATS Sixty combo. It has a Rockdriver 100 in it and it says Made In The USA which i'm assuming is a relabelled Eminence. It's 8 ohms. It sounds somewhat like a more tame and balanced V30 which pretty much describes an Eminence Legend.

The ATS seires is pretty much in the same vein and era as the Attax series. Not sure if they were the predcessor to the Attax.

If you do in fact have USA made Rockdrivers in your cab then you might want to consider some Eminence Legends. They're cheap as chips and you may even have money left over after selling off the GT12-75's.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Holy crap dudes, the Legends look exactly like my rockdrivers!! Down to how many coils. Wow, I have found my replacements! But what model?!

MAybe this will help you guys get a very close match....the prongs u wire stuff to are facing up and down, not down and left or right.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

So much HATE for the 75's. They aren't nearly that bad. I'm in the camp witt JeffB and Erik. I'm goibg to do an X of 75's and Greenbacks in me 4x12 sometime soon. However, the 75's sound so much more open, balanced and have a better bass response than the V30's...IMO of course.
+++++++++++1
Well, the way I see it that means more CHEAP G12T-75's for me to buy on ebay, and I can make a killing when I sell my V30's!:laugh2:

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I would be very, very careful in selecting speakers based on looks. They may look the same on the outside, but the internal components may be different.

Why not call H&K and ask to see if they will sell you (or if they can direct you how to buy) Rockdriver replacement speakers?

Because they would be coming from Germany.....mucho money. Same with any parts I've ordered.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

i don't want to come off sounding like a d***, but it really doesn't seem like you're willing to do much about the problem you're having with the cabinet.
you really need to have that thing running at the right impedence, as that can affect the tone. beyond that, if you aren't satisfied with it, there isn't much else to do besides swapping out speakers or selling off the cabinet for something else.

you've gotten a lot of great suggestions from everybody in this thread, but you're going to have to do something about it if you want it to sound better.

You don't sound like a ****, peple here just don't get that not everybody has money coming out their butt. Yes I would love to get V30's but I just can't afford them....probably ever at this point. And of course I"m taking care of the impedence problem when I get new speakers.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I'm personally not a fan of either V30s or G12T-75s on their own. V30s seem to lack bass and have an aggressive (read: obnoxious) mid spike. 75s sound scooped and don't have as much punch as other designs.

But installed together in the same cab, they're a beautiful pair. They each compensate for each other's weaknesses and compliment each other's strengths. My favorite speaker combo is a combo of my least-favorite popular speakers. :)

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I hated V30's with the Mesa Mark IIB I owned. I love the sound of the V30's coming out of my girlfriend's brother's 5150.

Jacob, if you want to get into V30 terriroty on a budget, look for avatar "Hellatone 60"'s on ebay. Quads of them go for approx 200-250, thats about 50/65 per speaker. CHEAP. And they are 100% Celestion vintage 30's, just RELABLED. And Dave at Avatar speakers breaks them in prior to selling them.

EDIT: Dont worry I'll send you that file today, I honestly completely forgot. My bad!
