Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I use V30s in both my Marshall 1960 A/V 4x12 and also in my Vox 2x12 cab..Both are closed cabs and the V30s are my favorite.I totally don't like the 75 watt Celestions!

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I am 101% with Rid..again!

The T75's have got to be the worst Celestion ever...I hsve just never gotten a good sound out of them...

Anyway...

As for the speakers in your H&K cab are they Celestions or Eminence??

Celestion era, circa early 90's.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Hmm...Celestion only makes 2 100 watt 12's that I know of, and I would assume that the H&K branded speakers are simply just stock Celestions with H&K stickers on them. The 2 100 watt Celestinos are the G12T100, which is called the "Hot 100" and the G12K-100...thing is that nether of those speakers should be much (if any) brighter than the G12T75...Im not sure what to tell you now

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I think its because you play Christian music on it... Marshall is the devils amplifier, didnt ya know that?

Just kidding, I agree with Rid.. The T75 doesent sound that good, and would be a contributor to the dark sound.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I've never liked those G12T75's on their own in a cab. Personally I think they're more useful for mixing with V30's in a 4x12. I have a Carvin Legacy cab loaded with V30's and I luuuuuurve it.

Maybe G12T75's just aren't your thing and they aren't a good match for the amp... or both? I for one have never been particularly taken with them.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

I think those are rated for 300W, IIRC.

If its got the 75Ts it will, but if it doesn't the rating would be different, I was just trying to get that nailed down.

That's the reason it sounds like it does. change all the speakers.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Yeah but he has the Marshall cab wired at 16 ohms and the H&K wired at 8. So, there are a couple reasons the Marshall will sound muffled.

1) It's just plain quieter. It's getting half the power the H&K is.

2) It's not breaking up as much. Breakup adds high-end harmonics to the sound, but since the 1960 is running at low power, there's no breakup.

3) The higher reactance of the 16-ohm circuit tends to attenuate highs between the amp and speakers, even before it gets turned into sound you can hear.

I bet if you wired that 1960 for 4 ohms and ran it by itself, it would sound a lot different. Unfortunately, you can't run it at 4 ohms AND the H&K at 8. That would give you 3.2 ohms combined, and your amp has a 4-ohm minimum IIRC.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Can someone explane to me why Marshall cabs sound like they have a blanket on em? My1960A sounds distant and a little hissy on the top end while my hughes cab is very present and articulate. Why is this?? Speakers maybe?

+1 on mismatched ohm ratings. The head and both cabs MUST have the same ohm rating. If you have a 8ohm head the cab or cabs MUST be 8ohms as well. Years ago I had the same experience. I didn't know you had to match ohm ratings and I had the amp cranked but there was a huge loss of output due to the ohm ratings not being matched.

Hmm...I have to guess that your H&K head simply doesn't ge along with that Marshall cab...G12T75's are known to be the brightest Celestion you can get your hands on...in fact they are my least fav Celestion due to the large amount of highs and the lack of good solid mids...

I almost always prefer bluebacks or greenbacks. I have to agree with TGWIF on the G12t75's Celestions

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Whether there's a problem with mismatching or not, I gotta say what everyone else said: the G12-T75 sucks. Imo it has least character of all Celestions. And: I think there could be a reason why the 1960s with those are cheaper than with the other speaker configurations ;) (the speaker bought itself is aswell)

Speaker isn't blown, just checked. And the cab sounds the same with only it running....stuffy n scooped. Something tells me these speakers blow. It's gonna cost me a crap load to get v30's won't it, cuz I don't think I'll get crap outta these speakers.

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

do you know if the speakers are phased properly?

sometimes, swapping the two wires on the back of the speaker puts them in proper phase and opens them up
good luck

No idea, it's brand new from another guy who used it like, 5 hours total. Should I try that? But do I run the risk of doin anything to it? Just switch the wires on the output?

Re: Why??(Marshall issues)

Once again, it seems I'm the minority around here....

I like MFs JMPs and 800s better than plexis
I like 75s better than V30s
I tend to like (some) DiMarzio pups more than my faves from Duncan
I Like Vs and explorers and MLs better than strats or teles or les pauls
I think boutique amps/pedals are overrated
I like Adrian Smith better than Dave Murray

I'm gonna go give Al Sharpton a call..I need some help defending my civil rights around this place

:laugh2:
