why my les paul sound so thin?

ive got a 1998? gibson les paul studio....and ive always noticed that it sounds thin compared to my other lp ...anyone know whats up with that? it has stock pickups it...

it could just be the wood.... trying a different set of PU's may help some...

A '98 LP Studio would probably be a 490R 498T. Did you buy it new? Check the wiring to make sure it's not wired in parallel and that there are no cold solder joints. You never know.

Agreed! There's good chance it's the wiring.

What's your other LP?

As mentioned the Studio has the 490/498 set.
Where as the Standards have the Burstbuckers and the Classic Antique will have the 57 classics.

Like these guys are saying...you are comparing one guitar to another yet we only know about one of them...what is the X factor???

The other one may have a 500T at the bridge. Anything short of an Invader will sound thin in comparison

The other one might be full mahogany.

My other guitar is a Gibson Lp custom COPY...this guitar is plywood, but it has an amazing lowend to it...

i imagine a real LP would sound better or as good as a plywood LP... but in this case no...i like the plywood sound better...haha...the low end at least...plus, it retained that lowend no matter what pup i put in it....

Dru Edwards said there could be cold solder joint...i think that could be my problem... becasue i know i did a crappy job at grounding the pups, it just wouldnt stick to the pots! how would i know if that was it?

to answer other questions....
yes i bought it new...i swaped out pups a while back, but came back to the stock ones...
i dont know if it's chambered...i doubt it...

cant remember how it sounded b4 i played with the soldering

LP custom copy
it has a 500k pot
epi pickups i got fer 5 bucks...
it just always had a good low end sound to it...
