Re: WHY THE DISPARITY IN ACTUAL VS. ADVERTISED SPECS AT SD WITH THEIR RW/RP OFFERINGS

What is with all the over reactions lately?

Anyway, I would venture to say I order far more Duncans a year then 99% of the folks here, and whenever I have a screw up, I just send it direct to MJ, and she corrects it.

I think the recent shootings have some of us all on edge.

My mind sure isn't right because of it.

Got a very low BS threshold today.

Sorry!

Re: WHY THE DISPARITY IN ACTUAL VS. ADVERTISED SPECS AT SD WITH THEIR RW/RP OFFERINGS

We've purchased a number of SD pickups in recent weeks, based on statements that all SD pickups were south polarity/top-coming, only to find out later that this wasn't quite true, because the Antiquities were all top-going.

Well, so there weren't actually other inconsistencies, only the RWRP thing, which makes your first statement misleading, to put it mildly.

Anyway, the question here is the following: how did you order the p'ups? Using the correspondent article numbers?

What I think it might've happened is the following:

1. you didn't order'em correctly from your supplier, as a RWRP Antiquity set must be ordered like this:

* 1 x 11024-09 "Surf" for Strat® neck

* 1 x 11024-10 "Surf" for Strat®, RW/RP middle

* 1 x 11024-08 "Surf" for Strat®, custom bridge

or

2. you asked the supplier a RWRP Antiquity set but the supplier didn't deliver what it was asked because of an oversight or just lack of knowledge of Duncan products and their codification.

Did you actually get any box with the 11024-10 sticker or were just 11024-09s and 11024-08s?

Answer this and we'll know what happened and who's at fault in this case.

Ditto! Seymour has been so good to me (restored the wiring of my '63 Stratocaster, repaired some real 50's pafs, custom wound me many wonderful pickups, repaired the broken pickup of my 1930-something Rickenbacker lap steel, etc., etc.) that I think of Seymour, Evan and MJ as friends. I usually will defend my friends when I think they are being unjustly accused.

I've had to learn stuff as I went along also from alot of you here on the forums Lew...I too have run into the weirdness using SD/Fender pickups,The Twangbanger with certain SD pickups, and also using the Antiquity Surfers with other pickups..It totally sucks to find out of phase or just weak, anemic sounding tones after spending the time and effort replacing pickups! I try to keep notes for future reference,or I do a search on the forums so I educate myself prior to diving into the unknown areas! Stardust has a very valid point and I've been there and on the phone with the guys at SD...Great company though and I Love their product/support!

My post began with an acknowledgement of the inconsistency in terms of phase and polarity between different Duncan models, John. Antiquity Surfers and Texas Hots are out of phase with each other :banghead: and I used that as an example. You and I know how to deal with that but less experienced tweakers wouldn't.

My issue was with expecting the dealer or Duncan Pickups to pay for his return shipping. I just wouldn't expect a dealer or manufacturer to do that myself, anymore than I'd expect my grocery store to pay for my gas so I could return a carton of sour milk. All I'd expect is a new carton of milk.

Sh!t happens. Accidents happen. That's life and just what happens sometimes in an imperfect world.

Re: WHY THE DISPARITY IN ACTUAL VS. ADVERTISED SPECS AT SD WITH THEIR RW/RP OFFERINGS

Then YOU should have got in your car and returned it.

Oh...you couldn't! Why? Because low price was more important than supporting your local music store, and the dealer YOU chose to purchase from in order for YOU to get it at the lowest possible price was a thousand miles away.

Well, IMO, that's the chance YOU take when YOU buy sight unseen from a dealer a thousand miles away, in order to save money, instead of paying a little more and buying locally.

Oh Lord! Spoken like a true, but well-disguised small business owner whose struggling to make it in the competitive marketplace. Well, let me tell you something there, genius . . . whether I get in my car and spend my time and gas to return something to a local music store (as you suggest), or I get in my car and spend my time and gas to return ship the item to an on-line merchant from my local post office, it amounts to the very same dammed thing. It amounts to time, inconvenience and money spent by the consumer for a screw-up that was no fault of the consumer's! Got it? Get it? Good! Why is that such a heavy freaking lift for you? Am I not speaking the King's English??

And lastly, I'll share the very best part of it all with you, Detective . . . I live in an extremely remote location in the middle of the freaking South Pacific - there isn't a retail music store that stocks Seymour Duncan products within 3,000 nautical miles of me!! What say you now, genius???

Get back to the books, Junior - you're outta your element.

Could you have the Professor make another pickup out of vines and magnetized lava from the Other Side of the Island?

:)

More seriously-- in this case Frank Lee thinks that the replacement should not cost you a dime because they sent you the wrong thing.

Thank you.

Haaaaa! There we go! A little levity and level-headed thinking amidst the darkness. Way ahead of you! I've already got Ginger and MaryAnn working on getting that defective pickup into a corked bottle for return shipment to California!

1) Wrong. I didn't order a "set" - I ordered one, single, pickup, a single "11024-10 Surf for Strat®, RW/RP middle" pickup which should have been NORTH polarity and wasn't.

2) Wrong. Again, the single pickup that I received, arrived in sealed factory packaging, including serial number, with the following information clearly labeled in ink on the external packaging: "11024-10 Surf for Strat®, RW/RP middle".

Does that help? Do you have your answer? I know I do! I know the folks at Seymour Duncan do too! And that is precisely why I'm not inclined to absorb any further costs the way others here might like. Are we there yet?

Re: WHY THE DISPARITY IN ACTUAL VS. ADVERTISED SPECS AT SD WITH THEIR RW/RP OFFERINGS

You and I know how to deal with that but less experienced tweakers wouldn't.

"Deal" with what? Installing pickups of opposite polarities? Here's a telegram for you, Chief . . . setting up Strats with pickups of opposing polarities and differing directions of wind is hardly a quadratic equation or quantum mechanics! Good grief! My 10-year old daughter can follow those principles! And if this is your arrogant way of saying that you have more experience at such things than I (and other "less experienced tweakers") do, then I'd caution you to walk softly. In your self-proclaimed "expertise", you know absolutely nothing of me or my years of experience in professional luthiery.

Yes, I have.

Now you can relax and lose the attitude towards the good people that tried to help.

Stardust take a deep breath bro. I don't think anyone is attacking you personally or your skills. If you don't want to support SD anymore that's up to you. Your comming into a fourm as a new member and are not going about it in a very positive way if you are actually looking to acomplish anything at all.

Re: WHY THE DISPARITY IN ACTUAL VS. ADVERTISED SPECS AT SD WITH THEIR RW/RP OFFERINGS

Stardust, how often to the local Headhunters visit your neck of the woods?

Re: WHY THE DISPARITY IN ACTUAL VS. ADVERTISED SPECS AT SD WITH THEIR RW/RP OFFERINGS

It costs $3 or less to send a pickup First Class USPS. You've spent a lot of time typing a lot of posts here. How do you value your time?

I'm calling troll on this one. This is way over the top given the circumstance.

And as for the snot-ball response RE small business owners, please tell us who you are so us small business owners can avoid you like the plague.

Kojak,

Yes, I understand and fully appreciate what you're saying, and I apologize. I've let my emotions get well ahead of me when they shouldn't have, and believe me, the 'attitude' wasn't there when I initiated this thread, but eventually, people (like me) are gonna grow tired of others with their condescension and their reprimands, espousing their beliefs on what happened, when they've already been TOLD what happened in plain English, all-the-while telling you that you (not the merchant) are to blame for it - that you (not the merchant) should bear the cost of any return! It's absolute bulls**t!

I couldn't have been any clearer in what I said. The folks at Seymour Duncan have been completely understanding and 'awesomely accommodating', but the fact remains - they are at fault, they are the ones publishing incomplete or inaccurate specifications making it unnecessarily difficult, and they are the ones making people feel awkward when they call to inquire about specs. Its completely unacceptable and I'll stand by that assertion till I drop!

But its not about any return at this point. Its too late for that now. This whole pickup debacle has gone-on since late October and the three guitars in question were supposed to have been delivered in late November! Hell, if I opted to send this defect back to SD for "zapping" to simply reverse the polarity the way they suggest, the three instruments (now promised before Christmas), wouldn't be done until after the New Year. No! Its done already! Just fix the problems for others, and for the future, that's all. That's all I'm asking. That's all I asked from the outset. And to that end, Scott Olsen (at SD) pretty much said all that needed to be said. He said . . . "No one is more pissed off than I when these things don't go exactly as you would hope". That says to me that they intend to address it, and that's good enough for me.

Here we go! This is precisely the kind of filth that I'm talking about. Troll? Call it whatever you like, Ace, but let me educate y'all down there in the bayou! The return shipping costs on the smallest USPS flat-rate box (one-way) from my location to California is more than TRIPLE the amount you just spewed. O.K.? And it takes about 6-8 days travel time each way.

And as far as being "over the top", well, you haven't been along on our journey, have you? So you really wouldn't know, would you? So this makes you nothing more than another one of the talking heads, doesn't it? Do us all a favor and do your homework before you start running your mouth.

Man. I can't believe I just read all this bull****. I appreciate the fact you've come on here to vent your dissatisfaction, but why be so incredibly caustic and insulting? Thanks for pissing all over my mood. I'm so glad you don't live anywhere that I'll ever have to meet you in person.

It's a record to join the forum and end up on my ignore list on your first day.
